Welcome Barry W. Hixson - Our New Senior Associate!

We are very excited to announce Barry’s arrival in our office. His first day with us was November 2, 2015. As Barry is quick to point out, the senior in his title is due to his level of experience, not the color of his hair!

Barry’s previous employer was the Cherokee County Solicitor’s Office where he was the Chief Assistant Solicitor General, prior to retiring. After retirement, Barry decided to branch out and join us because he feels like he has served the community well, and he is now in a position to use that experience to help individuals at times when they most need help. He is especially fond of our mission to help young people have the opportunity to be the best person they can be. This may stem from having two young adult children of his own.

Barry is a Pennsylvania native, but has lived in Georgia since 1994. Outside the practice of law, Barry is an avid reader. His favorite novel is All The Kings Men, while his favorite author is Fyodor Dostoyevsky. He also enjoys walking and jogging to stay healthy. One of his less known talents and hobbies is playing drums.

The conference room at the office was transformed in to a movie set Tuesday! I was being filmed for a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) course from the office. The course was on criminal law, and it will educate attorneys who are not as familiar with that area of law. Luckily, everything is back in order at the office!

We visited KSU Delta Chi over the weekend, and Paul presented on the Biggest Mistakes College Students Make That Ruin Their Lives. We had a great time with this group of gentlemen.   We gave a challenge to them as well on raising funds for their philanthropic work, which any Kennesaw State University student can assist them with. Check out our Facebook Post for details!

A big thank you to Steve Klaesius and Rev. Jim McRae for hosting our presentation "The Worst Mistakes High School Students Make to Ruin Their Lives" at Canton First United Methodist Church! We had a lot of insightful questions from those in attendance.

If you know of any groups that could benefit from having Paul speak to them, please call our office at 770-720-6336 to arrange a time!

I really enjoyed presenting to the ladies of Delta Phi Epsilon at KSU last night on the Biggest Mistake College Students Make That Ruin Their Lives! We had a bunch of insightful and intelligent questions asked after the presentation.

We also gave these ladies a challenge on raising funds for some of their philanthropic work, which any Kennesaw State University student can assist them with. For every KSU student who likes our Facebook page and sends us a message on FB saying "KSU - DPhiE," their name, and their KSU email address between now and October 31, 2015, we will donate $2.50 to Delta Phi Epsilon to put toward their philanthropic works. If we get 500 or more likes and messages by October 31, 2015, we will be donating $2,500 to them!

When you like our page and send us the message, we'll also add you to our monthly newsletter, which will give you tips about common legal issues that young people face. It's a win for you and for DPhiE!

Earlier this week, we said goodbye to our 2001 Honda Accord. It had 275000 miles on it and was no longer reliable. We gave it to Etowah High School. We hope the students involved in the auto mechanics classes are able to use it as part of a number of great learning experiences!
