Very busy bee in the garden, those wings have taken a real beating. First try with macro on the new camera, a bit hit and miss, I think I need to change it to single point focus.

Having got all new birding gear from the Birdfair on Saturday (Hawke Nature-Trek 8x32 binoculars & Nikon P610 camera), another treat arrived by way of a stunning Sunday morning. Set off with Alfie at 6am for a 3 hour trudge round the patch and got yet another surprise, great views of a Kestrel.

Can't fault the Hawke bins, didn't notice the drop from x42 to x32, aside from being lighter :-) Decent photo ops were thin on the ground but even with distant and back lit subjects my new Nikon didn't fare too badly at all even just using the birdwatching and landscape scene modes.

Now all I need is a break from tradition and decent weather for the coming bank holiday weekend!

Here's the full rundown: Woodpigeon, Goldfinch, Blackbird, House Sparrow, Carrion Crow, Pheasant, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Swallow, Collared Dove, Magpie, Dunnock, Linnet, Mallard, Robin, Kestrel, Red-legged Partridge, Greenfinch, Rabbit & Squirrel.

For once the sun shone for Sunday's patch visit, slim pickings still with many birds moulting this time of year. Did see a family of Wrens though, flitting arround in the shadows and a delight to watch.

This comming weekend it's Birdfair time at Rutland water, not been for a few years so looking forward to a grand day out. More info here: http://www.birdfair.org.uk

Here's the full rundown from Sunday : Woodpigeon, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Robin, Blue Tit, Collared Dove, Greenfinch, Wren, House Sparrow, Blackbird, Yellowhammer, Grey Partridge, Swallow, Pheasant, Goldfinch, Buzzard, Dunnock, Mallard, Linnet and a rabbit or two.

First patch visit since May, free Sunday's and early morning dry weather just havent been coming together this summer. Even today after all that waiting the weather was pretty dire with half an hour of rain and leaden skies. Pretty poor list then and no bird photos at all with it being so dark. Instead the view from the highest point on my route at Bromley farm.

Woodpigeon, House Sparrow, Yellowhammer, Carrion Crow, Blackbird, Collared Dove, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Blue Tit, Grey Partridge, Long-tailed Tit, Magpie, Wren, Swallow, Red-legged Partridge, Pheasant & Mallard.

You may not have to adjust the exposure (+ -) button where you live +Paul Cooper  but here in the stronger lighting of Australia I find that all the bridge cameras over expose and need that button to be adjusted a couple of stops down. Its easier to brighten a picture than to try and get detail from pure white!

Went to check out the South Yorkshire Festival at Wortley Hall in Saturday. Aside from the fudge stall, it was just the birds of prey that got my attention. Managed a couple of snaps of a Lanner Falcon & Barn Owl before the grey clouds moved in.

While I've not been able to get out wildlife watching lately, I've been reading A Wild Life by Martin Huges Games. A behind the scenes look at bringing nature to your TV and a wonderful read.
