"New TinkerTry'd Supermicro SuperServer Bundle 2 and Bundle 3 - lower cost of entry for your VERY upgradable virtualization home lab, now shipping from US and EU!"
Good news, bare bones (bring your own storage) virtualization server is now:
a) free shipping for those in the US, ships from Miami FL
b) roughly $65 USD for those in the EU, ships from Supermicro B.V. in The Netherlands (VAT calculated at checkout)
c) a more affordable system than ever, with those 2 included 32GB DDR4 modules dropping in price recently, and room for 2 more.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'm just so glad that finally, this year, there's a powerful and efficient system that I can recommend that I've personally tested heavily, based on the innovative Intel Xeon D platform (which has a slight 5% speed bump soon, read the article for full details, be well-informed). Strangely, this Supermicro packaging of this SoC (System on a Chip) design is still the only Xeon D system sold by any company in this mini-tower form-factor, so well suited for home labs and/or occasional travel. Idles around 30 watts with one Samsung 950 PRO M.2 drive for Windows 10, or about 55 watts with ESXi or Hyper-V (where GHz drops less for idle savings). Completely ready for VMware vSphere 6.0 Update 1a, including those 2 1GbE and 2 10GbE ports. Works with Hyper-V too of course, I just haven't tested that myself yet. Just so happens many companies OEM their stuff from Supermicro (Nutanix, SoftLayer, etc), with lower costs appropriate for home labs, yet still the joy of having iKVM onboard (Keyboard/Video/Mouse over IP), so you can tuck it away somewhere and enjoy running dozens of beefy VMs.
My extremely modest commission from the Wiredzone affiliate links barely pay for the included "bonus items" that TinkerTry provides at no charge, like the 6th matching SATA cable and the 32GB Sandisk flash drive. It's more about getting the common platform so we can share tips with one another. I've already published many basic M.2 NVMe tests and VSAN tests, All-Flash VSAN is next!
See the ATTO results (and the rest of the story) here:

"How to install Samsung 950 PRO M.2 SSD in a PCIe slot - tested with Supermicro 5028D-TN4T & Lycom DT-120 M.2 to PCIe adapter"
Next up, file copies, then trying to beat up on both 950 PROs concurrently (briefly), then verifying PCIe NVMe slot bootability. Also, some fun tinkering plans that include a sort of a redux of 2012's "I abuse RAID arrays, and I'm not ashamed to admit it, Episode 1, LSI 9265-8i" https://TinkerTry.com/raidabuse
This is what I do, as a way to learn, and a way for new tech to earn my trust, before I put any real data on there.
If you're already on 1511, don't forget, you don't have to wait 30 days to free up those 20-30GB of Windows rollback files:
Google today announced a new feature for its Hangouts chat and video calling application that allows meeting organizers to invite users to calls even if they don't have Google accounts. Google says this will make it easier for businesses to host conferences on Google Hangouts with outside parties, such as clients or consultants.
Using that same Media Creation Tool, you can also get the new .iso file for VMs or fresh installs. I renamed mine windows10586.iso to keep things straight (1511 is also known as Build 10586).
Have a great weekend!
