A smart phone in the hand of a not so smart person does not make the person smarter. Still have to use common sense, is the road to the major airport a side road covered with deep snow? haha.
A Toronto man who was in central Newfoundland for business last week got into trouble when the smartphone application he was using led him down a backcountry road.

The point of Google Project If is to built a cloud-based system where users aren't stuck with one particular carrier for service or even a phone number. Instead, their devices automatically roam to (encrypted) WiFi as available to provide faster and cheaper bandwidth. This model could even allow smartwatches to place phone calls directly through WiFi without being tethered to a nearby smartphone (the way Apple Watch and Android Wear typically are).

Carriers might not like it, because it reduces customers' dependence on their specific networks. For instance, there would be no need to subscribe to a particular carrier because you wanted to make free calls to friends and family.

Customers would like the fact that it makes cellular service more of a commodity, with the resulting price reductions due to increased competition and reduced differentiation.

An excerpt from the article:

"But as Google’s actual announcement makes clear, saving money isn’t really the point of Project Fi. The service’s true goal is to change the way we think about wireless data service. The subtext of Project Fi is that traditional wireless carriers aren’t as important as they think."
Cheaper service isn't the primary goal with Google's new wireless plans. It's more about providing better connectivity.

With Canada cutting its nose off to balance it's budget, we risk a lot given the slowdown in the economy. Politics seem to exclude sound judgment again: There's nothing more dangerous, when it comes to the economy, than getting cause and effect backwards.

That's how slowdowns turn into slumps, recessions turn into depressions, and recoveries turn into relapses. It's what the austerians did, though, when they insisted that cutting the deficit during a depression would actually help the economy by boosting confidence in the government's finances. It's an old fallacy that had beendisproved in the 1930s, but came back from the intellectual dead in 2010 when people were looking for any excuse to do the economically inexcusable. So what had been hard-won knowledge became even harder still—if it was at all—as government threw one fiscal hurdle after another in front of the recovery out of fealty to some defunct economists. And that's why the IMF is trying to make sure we don't forget again that, yes, Keynes was right.

The IMF has shown that countries that did austerity had less, not more, investment afterwards.

+Johnny Kat Yup, and I think its corruption. There are rich people that get richer when economy goes up and down, rather than being stable.

So, it was a Canadian dog.
Some people on living on Fogo Island, off Newfoundland's northeast coast, may be looking over their shoulders today after a polar bear was spotted lumbering around the community.

Google is about to launch a new cost-effective mobile phone service for Americans only. And as the news spreads, it may trigger a new round of grumbling in Canada over the state of this country’s telecom industry.

Every minute after you clock out of the office counts. Next time you run errands after work, push directions from your computer to your Android phone and have them ready in hand as you head out the door.
