ID please? I should know what this is, I'm sure, and I could google for a while and probably locate it. But some of you can probably save me the time, yes? Do tell!

This is, as you can read, my first shot from today. It was a very warm six mile walk, and my feet felt about twice as heavy, but I did it and now I'm enjoying the cool of our house. (I hope it manages to stay this comfortable (we don't have air conditioning), since we are in for some high temps.)

UPDATE
Identification provided by +Vicki Field! It's  Catananche caerulea, with common names of Cupid's dart, blue cupidone, and cerverina. I love knowing things like this! :-)

Working with birds isn't my strong point. But ... well ... pelican. So whatever.

Wow - you really have an amazing shot here!  The form of the wings is like nothing I have ever seen before.

An Unusual Instance ... At Least For Me

I don't shoot posed things for the most part. I like to head out on walks and see what I find and shoot in the natural environment. That's not to say I don't like what others do, though. I know some people purchase flowers from the florist and take them home so they can work with them using their perfect lighting and a background of their choice. I guess I'm just too lazy for that kind of thing! I know others who pose people or objects to get just that perfect work of art. Again, laziness on my part, I suppose.

I also don't shoot animals unless they are alive. Until maybe now. I'm fairly sure this butterfly was either dead or dying. To be honest, I felt rather bad, and hadn't a clue what is best to do with something like this. Was it suffering? Should I have helped it along in its death? (I don't actually think I could have done that, though.)  Ah well ... not knowing what else to do, but seeing its beauty, I pulled out my camera.

I'm still not sure how I feel about what I did. I'm not even sure what I think of this shot.

You're like me regarding liking photographing the flowers and beings where they belong, in Nature. In my opinion you did the right thing just to leave this beautiful Swallowtail alone and capturing its gorgeousness for the rest of us to see.
If I suspect animals to be suffering I feel bad about that, like you do.
Bless you, +Patricia Emerson Mitchell . You are such a fine human being.

This must be magical!  Normally I am accepting about my sound sensitivity but this makes me long to hear it.

Story
Tagline
oboist & English hornist, educator, latté drinker, chocolate lover, master whiner
Introduction
I play oboe & English horn. I whine about reeds. I've been playing professionally since 1975 (1974 if you count a municipal band). I have a home studio, and I've been teaching privately since sometime in the 70s. This makes me feel very old.

I'm also a mom. And a wife. And a daughter. And sister.

It's not hip (especially where I live!), I know, but I also have this belief in Jesus thing going. But I won't talk to you about that unless you ask.

I'm a hobbyist when it comes to photography. Currently photography and walking are passions. They work well together. Chocolate is a passion too, but I don't eat chocolate while walking and and shooting. I'm smart that way. That is probably the only way I'm smart.

I'm the queen of ellipses and you can't take that away from me ... really! I also use far to many exclamation points!!
