The final 25km section of the Asian Highway linking India, Myanmar and Thailand has just been completed making overland travel between Thailand and India a real possibility... for the more adventurous of you maybe, or even the more desperate. http://goo.gl/4cMWhj ‪#‎thailand‬ ‪#‎bagan‬ ‪#‎mandalay‬

The road runs from Mae Sot in Thailand to Mandalay and onward to the Tamu border crossing to Moreh in India.

The travel time from Mae Sot to Mandalay is estimated at 11 hours and the road north to Mandalay 'passes' Bagan, the number one tourist attraction in Myanmar. Bagan is either a 3 hour side trip from the 'Road to Mandalay' or a 3 hour side trip from Mandalay itself. It's this feature of the Asian Highway that may appeal to the adventurous traveler out there. Not so much the bar hopper which accounts for 99.99% of the Rag readership!!

I've been looking to buy a back-lit keyboard for some weeks, (it's a bit gloomy in the Rag cave), and all I could find back-lit locally were high end gaming keyboards costing Bt3,000+. ‪#‎pattaya‬ ‪#‎lazada‬

I've never used Lazada's online shopping site before. (http://goo.gl/KGvUw2). but thought I'd check it out as a last throw of the dice before heading up to BKK. Well blow me down with a fevver...... was I in for a surprise.

Lazada had a stack of keyboards of all styles and prices on offer. The prices seemed competitive with what I'd seen locally and on other sites so I took the plunge for a sexy black, back-lit, Logitech G105.

I placed the order Saturday night and the keyboard was delivered this morning, (Tue). It's free delivery, (no comments please), and you have  the option of paying by credit card or 'cash-on-delivery'. COD every time please..

Note. The keyboard has no Thai characters on the keys. I don't type Thai so this is fine but it's something you should be aware of if you need the Thai character set.

Bottom line, would I shop at Lazada again. You bet I would.

Niggles.

You have to enter an e-mail address as part of the purchase process. That address will receive daily e-mails from Lazada detailing their latest offers.

The tracking system for delivery showed my purchase as packed and ready for delivery when I was already in receipt of the keyboard. Did they use a drone?

Pattaya Baht Bus Drivers told to improve standards ‪#‎Pattaya‬ http://buff.ly/1fuCbMc

The reality of the situation is that these types of complaints have been raised for many years and numerous attempts to regulate the drivers in any way have failed.

Rag - Our choice has always been for modern, battery powered, tuk tuks to replace Baht Buses. They have a smaller footprint, travel door to door and almost qualify as a tourist attraction. Oh and it's really tricky for a pick pocket to lift your wallet in a tuk tuk....... What's not to like?

The best explanation I've read for the Bangkok bombing was in a comment made to a Guardian article in UK - http://goo.gl/xnWh3D ‪#‎Thailand‬

Quote:
The guy in custody had 200 fake Turkish passports. It seems logical that those fake passports would have been used to move the Ughurs from Thailand to Turkey, where they then crossed the border into Syria and joined up with IS.

The Thais ruined that plan by deporting the Ughurs back to China. The terror network then decide to teach the Thais and Chinese a lesson. They bomb a religious site they know is frequented by a good mix of Thais and Chinese tourists.

Now, that bombing was rather stupid on the part of the terror group because all it has done is, basically, prove the theory that the Ughurs were being smuggled through Thailand. That will lead to greater scrutiny of arriving Ughurs and, effectively, shut the route to Syria via Turkey.

As for deporting the Ughurs back to China, what else could the Thai government do? They are Chinese nationals. They cannot stay in Thailand and cannot be allowed to travel onward to Turkey. The only option was to deport them back to China.

Investigation into the professionalism of Thai sex workers servicing Thais in the “bathing-sauna-massage” parlours, or “ab ob nuad” in Thai. http://buff.ly/1NSCHzF ‪#‎Thailand‬

Rag - A lengthy article that tries to dispel some of the myths of the industry but just leads to an unsatisfactory ending....... a jingle-jangle ending.

It covers the Thai web forums and websites that specifically review bathing-sauna-massage establishments and are a main factor in the development of the industry.

The 'code' used on the Thai web forums for rating the girls is uniquely Thai I think. For instance “Handing in homework” is writing a review right after getting serviced. “Dropping money” means receiving a bad service and feeling disappointed with the money spent, like it has been “dropped”. “Getting change” means getting service so good that the client feels like they “got change” in return after the service. “Jingle-jangle” means the service did not meet expectations, but it was not nearly as bad as “dropping money,” like they got a tiny bit of “change” in return.

For an example of a Thai review forum/site see the “Chiang Mai Nightlife Society” webboard (http://buff.ly/1NSCKLH).
Note from editor: At the mention of the Thai sex industry, sexpats may start spouting off about their expertise in establishments at Soi Cowboy, Nana, Patpong, and Pattaya. Much less-publicized, however, is the local sex industry catering to Thais. Prostitution establishments targeted at locals ...
