Since yesterday 3rd of December 2015, Apple's Swift is now available as open source at swift.org. The Swift license is based on the Apache 2.0 license with a Runtime Library Exception. 
 
While last year Apple stunned everyone by suddenly introducing a new programming language, this year they topped that by releasing a second iteration of a programming language that is just over a year old. In that year, Swift has made a lot of good improvements, such as syntactic sugar for Arrays and Dictionaries, the nil coalescing operator "??" and many improvements to failability of code.
