Wisdom trumps logic when it comes to winning. We need to consider each win, and decide whether it brings or creates value - http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-win-without-winning-patrick-schoof
A few years ago, I spoke with a friend after his conversation with colleagues quickly became a debate. When asked about it, he was defensive, told me he was right, and said he won the argument. This is a good person, generally liked by all, yet his career was not moving and people were not lining up to partner with him. When he finished, I asked, “What do you lose from winning?” He looked at me a bit confused. Then I said, “Have you considered wha...

Do you have a detailed post on linkedin about your firm. I would like to read and pass on some possible opportunities with members of my family that's working on different degrees or that is just a fast learner and does better with otj training. Yes, most of them are here in MD by relocating or by birth. My son shops for his electronics in Rockville, especially when he wants to upgrade rams, motherboard, etc. I'm thinking about moving back on that end but I do like White Marsh.

Consider moments as opportunities that help to define us and shift our lives - http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/every-moment-matters-patrick-schoof
A few months ago, I pulled into a store parking lot and noticed six college students having an animated conversation. I was surprised to discover the subject was a quarter on the ground next to them, and who would pick it up.While the discussion changed a few times, it kept returning to this quarter. For several minutes, I wondered who would reach down, yet no one did. As they finally left to go inside the store, one of them said, “If it’s still ...

In every moment is an opportunity. Here are a few thoughts on how to seek and respond to them - http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/responding-opportunity-patrick-schoof
In my first week of managing a consulting firm, a friend mentioned an organization seeking consultants. We asked for details, did research, and found a project of interest and compatibility: Design and direct three weeks of high-interaction, non-controversial, team-building / adventure activities and peace programs for prominent, hand-selected leaders, speaking 31 primary languages, from 154 countries. The client was the Atlanta Committee for the ...

A simple, powerful way to increase your productivity - http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/7-simple-steps-increase-productivity-patrick-schoof
That’s right! Without the need for workshops, webinars, e-books, podcasts, downloads, etc. What is this productivity solution? Get ready. It is… a list.Okay, it is not new. You have done them before. Yes, they work. So, why the build-up… and an article? Simply said, we think and talk about lists, yet rarely write them or use them to their potential. Here is a “list” of thoughts to consider.1) Write a list of projects that ‘need’ to be done.2) Ord...

Three simple powerful ways to bring more value to your life at http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/think-beyond-yourself-3-simple-games-patrick-schoof
We are told practice makes perfect. In truth, practice only makes habit. Habit can be a good thing. It allows us to manage multiple tasks at the same time safely, without using much conscious thought and energy, such as driving, walking or typing. In order to develop good habits that help us ...

7 Steps to a Resolution Revolution - How will you think beyond yourself, stretch, and shift direction this year?
4,000 years ago, Babylonians started the resolution tradition by promising their gods they would pay off their debts and return borrowed items at the start of the New Year. This tradition continues, with millions of people worldwide resolving to make changes in their life.It has become habit for many of us to make a resolution, even if we believe it is unlikely to be kept; and, it is a source of frustration and anxiety for others who feel they ma...
