Veggies growing in "River Beds" at Sahib Aquaponics Urban Research Farm - one of our methods of recirculating wicking bed. Eggplants, Peppers & Okra have been transplanted into containers that hold our special homemade organic soil mix
(Coir, Vermicast and composted aged wood chips), that have been placed in shallow water rafts (SWC). River rock media surrounds the containers. Effluent rich water from the fish tank is pumped into the SWC and is wicked up by the soil in the containers. This method allows us to add additional organic based fertilizers via "side dressing" depending upon the individual plants needs. Excellent results so far that increases the range of vegetables one can grow in via such Hybrid Aquaponics systems.
You too can do this right in your own backyard, patio, balcony or even on a rooftop. We can show you how :-)
