The most unusual StreetView ever...if you don't become a miniature railway enthusiast after watching this video you never will :-)

For an example of the insanely detailed models, check out this SV scene of the airport terminal: http://www.google.com/maps/about/behind-the-scenes/streetview/treks/miniatur-wunderland/#airport/terminal-frontside

Open Source Release of TensorFlow

I'm very excited to announce the open source release of the TensorFlow machine learning library that I and many others at Google have been building.

This blog post gives an overview:
  http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2015/11/tensorflow-googles-latest-machine_9.html

The web site has a number of tutorials and documentation about the system:
  http://tensorflow.org

The source is on GitHub:
  https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow

You might also be interested in the whitepaper we've prepared that describes TensorFlow in more detail:

We'd love to hear what people think.

Google Now is partly a portal to the main Google search engine, so you can ask the digital assistant anything that you would query Google for: the height of the Eiffel Tower, what six inches is in centimeters or even what’s on your agenda. But the app also integrates with specific features on your phone—here are 9 commands you can use with your mobile.

One more reason to be certain that +Google Cloud Platform has the world's best infrastructure: while bragging about their network, a competitor shows images of Google's network.  (Happened last week, see screen capture below.) Thanks for the acknowledgment, +Amazon Web Services! But next time please show our logo on the slide :-)

Shout-out to +Timothy Prickett Morgan for noticing this first.

Nice explanation of how the jet engines work.

This site is chock-full of awesome: it's a bunch of detailed and clear animations about how things work, ranging from jet engines, to speakers, to tarantulas. If you enjoy seeing the insides of things, it's a great job of technical illustration.

Via +Mark Oehlberg.
At takeoff, a jetliner engine can move 1.25 tons of air per second. That’s enough power to suck all the air out of the largest American football stadium in less than a minute! Here’s a basic look at incredible jet engine technology with the turbofan engine.

A solution to a 400-year old problem verified by a computer program.. I wonder if such a tool can be applied to paper reviews!
Way back in 1611, Johannes Kepler suggested that the most efficient way to stack spheres--like arranging oranges for sale--was in a pyramid formation. Sadly, he couldn't prove it, but now a computer has finally verified it to be true, settling centuries of debate.

My wife and I booked a labor induction massage (I'm going to call it that..because that's what it did =)) with Viji. I don't think it was totally a coincidence that my wife went into labor the next night, and our baby was born a day later! The massage itself was very relaxing and it helped my wife overcome some mental blocks about going into labor. Viji is a wonderful person and she went beyond her obligation to help us out. She spent so much extra time with us really getting to know more about the pregnancy and even gave us some advice about breastfeeding, it was not just about the massage. If you are around your due date, waiting to go into labor..get a massage from Viji! =)
