Michelangelo and Raphael; Leibniz and Newton; Constable and Turner. Does every creative genius need a bitter rival?

I sure hope that whatever is the cause of creative genius doesn't require bitter rivalry. For me it's like competition, a little goes a long way.

Too often I think the need for recognition blinds us to the joy of discovery in the first place. But what can you expect from people who grow up now in an environment where the catch phrase has become "The Absurdity of Growing Up," rather than the other way around as Paul Goodman wrote of.

And what are we to point at as the main cause of this? Being a quite passionate advocate for an alternative to our current economic operating system I have very specific views on that question. Perhaps they might interest you: http://capitalismisobsolete.blogspot.com/

It's a hard question to answer:
Readers of romance fiction enjoy tales of alpha males and forced seduction. Could they still be considered feminists?
