Looking for a great family vacay spot? +Suzanne Rowan Kelleher listed Palmetto Dunes as one of the best bike-friendly resorts. The whole gang will love exploring on two wheels! http://travelwithkids.about.com/od/familyhotels/ss/Bike-Friendly-Resorts-to-Explore-on-Two-Wheels.htm#step4
Does your family love exploring on bikes? These resorts make it easy (and often free) to get around on two wheels.

We LOVED our family stay at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. It was so beautiful, and the beachfront is incredible. Our stay was lovely. Our condo was clean, neat and the decor was so fun and nautical. We loved biking on the beach. Fishing in the Ocean and so much more. We enjoyed Big Jim's on the Trent Jones Golf Course for a great lunch out as a family. And Hilton Head Outfitters set us up with family bicycles and kayaks. So great! Check it out for a 5 star family vacation! Thank you Palmetto Dunes!

Palmetto Dunes is an oceanfront resort located in Hilton Head. It sits on three miles of beach, and includes such amenities as a full-service marina, a tennis center, and an 11-mile lagoon. There are no stuffy hotel rooms here, though; enjoy a vacation home or villa rental. If (when!) we return to Hilton Head Island, we will stay again at Palmetto Dunes. I’ve already recommended it to several close friends. The villas a spacious, clean, and perfect for families. They come well equipped with everything you need for a short stay or an extended vacation. The myriad activities available at the resort will keep you busy for days! I highly recommend staying here. Just a note….booking your villa directly through Palmetto Dunes will provide you with additional amenities that other booking facilities cannot provide. Hilton Head Outfitters was great to us. Bike riding was a big highlight of our trip, and I recommend it highly. If you are staying at Palmetto Dunes, using HH Outfitters is the easiest solution. They also offer canoe and kayak rentals, fishing trips, and surf lessons (for adults and kids!) Big Jim’s was great food in large servings. It was casual and comfortable with the whole family. The kids were occupied, and they loved the food. And, it was perfectly convenient in the resort, near the tennis courts, golf course, and on the bike path. We are huge fans, and would recommend this to anyone! Disclosure: Thank you to Palmetto Dunes for hosting my family and me. We sincerely appreciate the complimentary stay in our villa, but it in no way swayed our opinion.

Palmetto Dunes is my favorite place on Hilton Head Island. The resort is beautiful and I enjoy playing golf here several times a month. The courses really are top notch for an area that has so many to choose from. With 3 unique layouts, we don't need to go anywhere else and the staff treats us like family. I've used head pro Doug Weaver for years to work on my game as well. The restaurants are fantastic (don't miss Big Jim's). For families vacationing, Palmetto Dunes has endless activities! And HarbourFest in the summer is a huge deal...free fireworks...can't get much better! Love it!!!!!

LOVE this place! It's casual (its the beach after all), so you don't have to get dressed up, but you definitely can if you want to. We're enjoying a nice little winter respite here in one of the villas. Had great fish tacos at The Dunes House yesterday, and I tried the gouda burger at Big Jim's restaurant last night - WOW! Now all I have to do is go for a run on the beach to burn off some of the calories! But that's not so bad - its the beach after all).

Excellent place to spend a vacation!!!!!! The beach is all private and so it is basically empty so you can scoop up about 25 yards of beach to be alone. It is a little creepy going in the ocean because not many people are around and theres like 1 life guard per quarter mile but its very relaxing. Bocce ball dominates this beach because when the tide goes out, it goes wayyyyyyyyy out. The beach is very flat and nice with large puddles for kids to play in. There is a ton of wildlife on the beach such as horseshoe crabs, sting rays, jelly fish, various minnos, many larger fish, dive bomb pelicans, calm seagulls, but there are of course the exciting SHARKS AND DOLPHINS! Dolphins swim by all the time in pack of 5. They swam about 10 yards in front of me at one point....little creepy. Biking is a very big part of this area as there are trails all over the island. Make sure you rent a bike! Overall an excellent vacation!
