Menu

Head Chef and Owner Sandy Gendel fuses organics with art, and community with luxury in his treasured progeny–Pace. True to its namesake, this Laurel Canyon sanctuary is a cozy and serene approach to refined Italian cuisine.

Pace’s rustic menu features classic pasta dishes, original salads created with seasonal produce, to-die-for entrees, and inventive ciabatta-crust pizzas. Gendel handpicks his organic ingredients from local farmer’s markets twice a week so that “each morsel travels from the farm to your mouth in less than three days . . . and is infused with the care afforded by organic cultivation methods.”

At Pace, the farmer’s markets are valued not only for their superior fresh food, but Gendel also remains committed to supporting the local agriculture community. He encourages further community symbiosis by displaying for sale the eclectic and vibrant works of local artists, complimented by the wall of his patron’s spontaneous creations. Pace also showcases live musicians in hopes to marry the artistry of cuisine, sight and sound.

Gendel believes in a hands-on, leave-your-ego-at-the-door approach to the culinary experience. When not cooking in the kitchen, you can find him seating tables and welcoming peace and food lovers from around the world.

Everything was excellent! We had a 7:00 reservation, arrived a little early, and were seated right away. (It got busier as the night went on, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a good time to go.) The service was outstanding. Our server's recommendations were spot on. Wine, starter, entree, chocolate soufflé -- all excellent. To the guys who go around refilling water glasses, bravo! My glass was never more than half empty. On to the food! My aunt opted for the tortellini di zucca e ricotta, which our server described as seemingly heavy, but actually light. She was right. It had a very nice flavor and the cream sauce wasn't too creamy. My aunt's colleague/friend/my mom's business partner (they were here for a convention... not important... moving on) and I both ordered the salmon. I read reviews prior to dinner, so I knew what I wanted. I thought maybe I should try something different, but I'm glad I didn't. It was excellent. So flavorful and moist. My sides were sauteed kale and roasted root vegetables. Also excellent. The chocolate soufflé takes 40 minutes to make, so you kind of have to make a decision on that pretty early on in your meal. It was very good, and the vanilla bean gelato on the side was a nice touch. It should most definitely be shared. Parking is pretty easy. If you're there early enough, you can park just north of the restaurant on the side of the road. I did that because I missed the turn for the restaurant and trying to make a u-turn on Laurel Canyon is a nightmare. Next time, I'll definitely opt for the $5 valet so I don't have to walk on the street and have cars zooming by me. (There's no sidewalk.)

Pace is a well known neighborhood gem that does a lot of things well. The dish might not knock you down but it will be good. Carbonara, pizza and burgers. Burgers you say? I've always skipped over the burger but finally decided to try it and it was FANTASTIC!! Their thin and crunchy bread is not your typical hamburger bun and it comes LOADED with deliciousness. Try anything on the menu - you won't be disappointed.

, the food is delicious, the service is always fast and attentive, the "vibe" is wonderful. The only points off are for it being kind of noisy -- everybody sitting together, trattoria-style, is fun, but not necessarily romantic -- this would be the *perfect* date spot but for that. (That doesn't stop my husband and I from celebrating our Anniversary there every year -- maybe it's just not the ideal *first* date spot... ) It's still my favorite restaurant anywhere in L.A.
