Hi devs!!

When I write custom views I think will be very very useful to me to have a grid in the layout preview to check sizes of stuff. Sometimes I want to check the sizes of everything and the only way of doing this is on the devices with apps like GridWichterle (https://goo.gl/pTf3oN) or Keyline Pushing (https://goo.gl/uQhbnf).

Do you think such a grid would be useful?

The human brain is very good at tricking itself with optical illusions, and sometimes you just want to put down a grid to make sure things really do line up. It would also be useful to have horizontal and vertical rulers you could drag around for the purpose.

Hi there guys, let's talk about icons.

Launcher icons
When it comes to app launcher icons I never had completely clear what was the rule of thumb. There was a little bit of disparity but most of apps agreed with the the +Roman Nurik tool (https://goo.gl/XfpUQ2)  guidelines.

Nowadays if you take a look at the launcher icon size in your apps drawer you'll see that's the jungle. Look at the picture with the four icons in a row. You see what I mean? Even in Google they use different sizes.

Even after checking this link (http://goo.gl/KpDM73) I have still no clear the topic.

So my question is.... How do you guys do this? Which tools do you use? What sizes_ What rule of thumb? Which one of the icons in the first photo is right and which one wrong?

Web icon
When it comes to the web/play store icon... the thing is probably worse. Take a look at the comparison between the Chrome Beta and Chrome Dev icons in the Play Store app.  Even if the launcher icon is exactly the same size (image with 3 versions of Google Chrome), the resources they provide as "Hi-res icon is different.

And then, when you try to compare and get a rule of thumb, then you realise each icon is different (Picture with 4 browsers).

So guys, how do you proceed with this?

PD: Sorry about the photo order, G+ just makes it's own stuff even if I try to reorder them......

I'm following the advice here: http://developer.android.com/design/style/iconography.html

Regarding icon sizes: start with a 864x864 pixel image, scale down to the various *dpi sizes given as necessary.  To create the Google Play icon, I scaled down to 50% (432px), then padded to 512px.

I'm not sure this is the expected behaviour, my fault or a bug.

Looks to me like with the AppCompat is not showing the icons in the toolbar.

Any clue?

Hi,

I filed a bug for this here https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=93716

Hopefully we will see some improvements to the layout editor soon.

In designing a launcher icon, you should try to match a consistent weight, not size. A circle and square with the same bounding box will have subtly different visual weight, and a hollow or concave shape might seem almost malnourished unless it is scaled up (try resizing the Play Music icon!). To my reckoning, Plex and Twitter in your image get this very wrong, while the Google examples seem spot-on.

No clue what's going on with the various Chrome web icon sizes. Presumably they were exported from the original working file with slightly different parameters, and you're the first one to notice. I wouldn't worry about being overly exact here with your own icons.

A little bit expensive on my opinion but it's fair. Just in a tourism area with a good size local and fair food.

The place is very friendly, comfortable and good to eat in special occasions. The Boss Hog Platter is delicious and very recomendable. The fries are good as well. This particular local has two floors. Downstairs is a good place to be but it´s not the most illuminated place in the world, it´s almost like a pub at night.

This was my first experience in one of those ship bars in the river. I liked it. You can feel the movement once in a while and the interior is crazy, almost forget I was inside a ship. The prices are not friendly but this is a good place to go once in a while.

This is a perfect place to go after a hard work day. It's just beside the Blackfriars station and the bus station, so you'll be ready to take the transit. It's beside the Blackfriars bridge as well so you'll have not only buildings around but a good view. It has a nice terrace outside to enjoy a sunny day in London (no kidding) and even has a green area in front. I really like this place.

Has a good size with relaxed atmosphere. It's well located in the area. The exterior looks poor but inside is cool, with comfortable space and even a couch. The coffee has a good size and flavour.
