For a man, or a woman who loves letters and writing them, it is a good work to be a reporter though the life is hectic. Not one moment in his or her life goes lifeless. Peter B Giblett shares a very nice article written in his award-winning literary blog Two Drops Of Ink, written by Rachel Mendell. I am sharing this fine article here.

Several persons associated with the Marxist Party in Kerala made public statements about the abduction and attack on an actress in Kochi. Chief Minister Mr. Vijayan immediately after the attack said it was an isolated act by a criminal mind and there was no conspiracy behind it. The veracity of his statement was shattered as the conspiracy behind the act was later skillfully unearthed by a band of brilliant police officers in the state and his intention to protect the conspirators was exposed. These officers were undoubtedly giving warning that no politician however high has the right to speak in defense of a person or persons under investigation. His party’s MLAs and MPs- Mr. Mukesh, Ganesh and Innocent- who are also top executives of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists openly came in support of the alleged conspirators, indecorously ignoring they are public servants, paid government salaries for giving public services. Their behaviour in and after this association’s general body meeting was not of people’s representatives but suspicious, and made people think they might be co-conspirators in the case. Their approaching the state administration for interfering in the investigation was purely illegal and contempt of democratic protocols. State minister Smt. Mercykkutty Amma and former state minister Smt. Sreemathi also made public statements virtually in support of the victim but they have no credibility in Kerala in such matters, considering their involvement in other cases. Their involvement made people only suspect there is an elaborate scheme going on in Marxist Party for rescuing the conspirators. The only sensible and credible statement to have come from a Marxist Party leader in Kerala on this issue is by Mr. M A Baby who will no doubt be summoned by party bosses, dissected in a state committee meeting and warned or censured or made to contradict the statement as has happened earlier.

Malayalam Film Actors Association known as AMMA is a guild, a set up condemned even in the sixteenth century, the condemnation of which eventually led to the re-awakening of thought and knowledge and the flourishing of arts and literature, generally termed the Renaissance. The guild masters controlled the artists and without their consent, no artists could take up independent art commissions. If they did, they were out. If a guild master hated an artist, his professional and personal lives were made hell by this guild master, invoking the rules of the guild. Even Michael Angelo and Leonardo Da Vinci were persecuted by these guilds in Florence, Italy. Though the world put an end to this abominable practice which restrained artistic freedom and individual freedom of expression, in every century and in every country, guilds have tried to make comebacks. The Malayalam Movie Artists Association is such an anti democratic comeback of a guild, ignorantly allowed by the people and blessed by ignorant politicians from Chief Ministers to lowly Panchayat Members. This guild ought to have been banned from the first. History tells us why such guild should not exist in a civilized and democratic society. Actors and directors like Thilakan, Vinayan and many others who were banned from work and ousted from the field by wicked guild masters will vouchsafe the banality of these poisonous guild masters in the Malayalam film industry. Now this guild of rich actors has begun to meddle in the criminal investigations in the state and to influence the political and administrative leadership of Kerala to force these investigations to go their way. The people’s representatives in this guild who serve as Marxist Party MLAs and MPs and receive government salaries took open stand against a woman who was abducted in the open street and persecuted in a running car for hours by criminals plainly associated with the film industry. This cannot be allowed. The people of Kerala must think if this guild must be allowed to continue its operation, or forced to closure like the people in the sixteenth century did to those guilds.

Marxist Party's people's representatives in the film field do not reflect any communist ideology. It seems they paid huge amounts to brokers in this party and secured seats in the election. When they were allowed seats, long-serving communist party leaders who were true representatives of people’s feelings and so were beloved to people were denied seats to accommodate these low grade actors. Mr. Mukesh, Ganesh and Innocent do not deserve to be called communists and they do not represent people’s feelings. They represent only the vested interests of those who are nearest to them in the cinema field. We have never heard about them taking stand in any social or political issues of interest to people. Like a traitorous bad lot unworthy of communist party banner, they are openly and shamelessly bantering about a male actor who is their co-worker and more than an associate being persecuted for months on account of investigation on the attack on an actress in broad daylight in Kochi. They never have uttered a word in support of the actress who was high jacked and attacked who also is a member of their association. For this very reason, these three ought to have been ousted from the Marxist Party. The allegation in the article that the Chief Minister Mr. Vijayan's office from the first has been protecting the accused must be true. Wherever a criminal with money falls into trouble, the money-grabbing retinue who high-jacked Marxist Party and surrounds this party leader is ready there to protect him. There have been hundreds of such incidents in Kerala recently. When Mr. Vijayan made a number of illogical appointments with the title of advisers, this situation ought to have been expected.

There is nothing in Malayalam cinema to be proud of nowadays. What news coming from this field is depressing. Actors who give life to Rambo-like characters in the screen are cowards in real life who flee from vital and active social issues. This was their test and they failed shamelessly before the whole Kerala public. In the screen they render lengthy dialogues on the atrocities caused against women but outside the screen they remain mute when discussions on crimes committed against women co-workers come up in agenda. Or they do not permit or tolerate such topics coming up for discussion. The response (or actually the no-response) of Mr. Mohanlal and Mr. Mammootty were cowardly in the 2017 June Meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, if the media reports could be believed. The behaviour of Mr. Mukesh, Ganesh Kumar, Siddique, Innocent and a lot of others were disgraceful. Even poor and illiterate people in the streets behave and express their opinions courageously when attacks on women come up for discussion. The attack on the actress Ms. ---- was the only instance in Kerala where every male in an organization tried every way to freeze an investigation on the attack against a woman. It was also the first instance when it was revealed how spineless and gutless these Romeo-like abominations were in social life. Since the appearance of that internet article ‘Is The Guild System Returning Through Malayalam Cinema?’ many of the vices of these actors have been exposed. Now thanks to a vigilant media, many more of their vices are coming out. That is why Mr. Mukesh, Mr. Ganesh, Mr. Innocent and others, who are facing dire challenges from a number of versatile young acting geniuses who entered the acting profession recently, turned against media after this meeting for asking the question why Marxist MLAs and MPs are vehemently denouncing the attacked woman actor and defending vigorously the male actor allegedly masterminded the crime. The existence of these actors named here in the acting career depends not on their prominence which they have none now but on their presence which is threadbare now which this organization guarantees while they face cut throat professional competition. Now that they have gained enough publicity sponsored by the media and enough popularity supported by the film viewers of Kerala, they can safely condemn media for a time. Besides, it seems, they have made arrangements with the money-collecting junta which controls the Marxist Party which rules the state as was revealed by the sudden relaxation in the police investigation in this atrocity. But what if the film viewers of Kerala begin to boycott these cowards who remain either criminally silent or excessively abusive on important social and police issues like torturing women? Will those jokes of those Fans Associations of theirs be sufficient to sustain them? Women In Cinema Collective still has the option of writing to the National Human Rights Commission, International Human Rights Commission, Asian Human Rights Commission or even the UN Human Rights Council. Let us see if these impostors who play international criminals in films and mislead young generations influence these Europeans-dominated organizations filled with courageous rapporteurs with their supposed charisma and money.
