"Beauty to me since #breastcancer: Accepting my imperfections because I feel more beautiful today even with my battle wound scars!

"Beauty is being able to look at myself in the mirror and see what a beautiful person I am because #breastcancer did not take my life from me. Thanks to Dr. Chrysopoulo who gave me my girls back, they look great. When I look at myself I feel like a million bucks and nothing or no one can take that away from me. I feel as good as I look!" #29daysofbeYOUty

"I'm Maggie, diagnosed with Stage II Invasive Ductal Carcinoma #BreastCancer April 24, 2014. This picture was taken a few days after shaving my head. I cried a few tears after shaving my head but a couple of days later I looked in the mirror and saw my INNER BEAUTY - a beauty that would carry me through 16 rounds of chemo, a single mastectomy, 30 rounds of radiation, numerous other treatments and #breastreconstruction (at PRMA). I found out that hair is overrated but eyelashes and eyebrow - not so much! Beauty in not in my outward appearance but how I feel on the inside and what others see in me. #Cancer took away so much from me but it didn't crush my spirit nor did my faith in God falter. My mantra was "God's Got This"." - Maggie #29daysofbeYOUty

"Unlike women, most men don't have #breastreconstruction...probably because they don't know it's an option." http://n.pr/20R3R0J
Most breast cancer cases are in women, so treatment and support are geared toward them. Men with breast cancer can feel isolated. One man was given a pink ice pack and told to put it in his bra.

#FlashbackFriday to PRMA's blog archives: Telling Your Children You Have #BreastCancer http://bit.ly/1RpcESq
Recently, a new children’s book hit the shelves titled “Mommy R Your Boobies Broken.” Written by PRMA Patient Catherine Lutz, the story walks readers through the journey of a child trying to understand what having breast cancer truly means and just how difficult it can be to describe from a parents perspective. Every year 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. This statistic leaves many mothers trying to find a way to explain thei...

"I have always thought that while beauty includes physical attractiveness, that is a small part. To me a woman is beautiful when she shows other attributes such as self confidence, intelligence and a good moral compass. It is the total package. However, when one receives the diagnosis of #breastcancer it is quite easy to lose site of some of these attributes. I have never thought that my breasts were very much tied to my self image. Yet following #mastectomy I can see where the sudden removal of ones breasts, that nourished our young, enhanced our sexuality, and plain and simple made us feel feminine can be devastating.

Generations of women before us did not have the choices that we have today. When I started this journey to fight breast cancer some hurdles presented themselves and I made the decision to have bilateral mastectomy with #DIEPflap #breastreconstruction. Following the first stage of this procedure I awakened from anesthesia and I had breasts. When the nurses came around for my hourly checks every one of them told me how wonderful these new breasts looked. Finally, I got a chance to see these reconstructed breasts myself and I cannot tell you how impressed I was with what I saw. My sister passed away from breast cancer twenty years ago as a very young woman. Her fight was just to survive, not caring what she looked like after mastectomy. In reality she had a very ugly scar where her breast used to be and she found wearing a prosthesis too awkward and uncomfortable. Sadly, her journey with breast cancer ended in two short years.

However, I have come to realize that these surgeons and nurses have given back to us breast cancer survivors a chance to feel so close to our former selves before cancer came into our lives. If anything I feel more confident in myself for what I've been through. I feel like an ambassador to women who might have to deal with the tough decisions regarding breast cancer. Breast cancer does not have to take away your beauty and femininity. My friends, family and work colleagues all agree that my positive attitude makes me more beautiful than ever. Tomorrow I will have the next stage of reconstruction and I am actually looking forward to completing the process. Best regards to all of my breast cancer surviving "sisters". - "Margee" C.

I would like to thank Dr. C and nurse Denise for the great care and service I received during my reconstruction. My reconstruction results exceeded my expectations. I am especially thrilled with the flat belly that resulted from the DIEP flap procedure. Dr. C’s warmth, and patience really helped me to feel comfortable going through this very emotional process. He gave me all the information, which I needed to decide what the best decision was for me. Denise was also great in taking care of me and being available to answer all of my questions. I feel very blessed and thankful to have had Dr. C and Denise take care of my breast reconstruction.

I have completed my breast reconstruction with PRMA, and I am so pleased with the results. After receiving my diagnosis of breast cancer about 16 months ago, I had a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction using the DIEP FLAP method. My breasts are beautiful, and they look and feel normal. My doctor, Dr. Minas Chrysopoulo (Dr. C), his nurse, Denise, and all the staff here, are the best at what they do. Women from all over the United States and abroad come here for breast reconstruction. I am so grateful to PRMA for taking this journey with me.

I had implants put in 10 years ago after a double mastectomy and found out that they were both leaking. They had become very uncomfortable and even painful at times. Dr. Nastala is a very gifted surgeon that was able to reconstruct my breasts to the point at which I feel are better than my original pair! They feel natural and I believe they look very natural too. I could not be more pleased with the final result! Dr. Nastala and his entire staff are AMAZING!

I found Dr. Ledoux by referrals from happy former patients. He performed my Diep Flap reconstruction and I am very satisfied with the results. I look better than before the surgery. Even other cancer physicians that have examined me comment on his exquisite work. The staff is more like friends and have a very interactive website/Facebook to keep current and former patients involved. Monthly Pink Ladies meetings where you are welcome to ask questions and make friends with other patients. Dr. Ledoux and the staff caringly carried me through my cancer/reconstruction journey. Highly recommend and I have referred a few women already!

Words cannot express my love for everyone at PRMA. From my very first contact with PRMA, they took the fear out of the steps ahead. I am a BRCA1 carrier and chose to have a prophylactic double mastectomy with one-step reconstruction using Alloderm. I chose Dr. Chrysopoulo after interviewing many other surgeons and listening to previous clients' testimonies. I cannot thank him enough for being the kind of surgeon everyone should be fortunate enough to have. His demeanor is nothing but caring and understanding. Your voice is heard with Dr. C, his truly listens. I can say the same with the rest of the PRMA staff as well. Smiles abound in this office, they love what they do and they are there to take care of every single patient who walks through their door. I wouldn't hesitate in the least to send my BFF and even my own children to PRMA should they ever need to go through this journey. I'm so happy with my results and my recovery couldn't have gone any better.

I traveled from Kansas and Dr. Arishta completed my DIEP procedure. For a working Mom that was worn out from chemo, radiation and things gone wrong for 15 months of breast cancer, Dr. Arishta was able to make me feel like I wasn't the patient and that we were going to fix what cancer had ruined! He made sure he handled every concern I had no matter how small! With both phase 1 and phase 2, he took notes on small issues that made me unhappy even though they were so insignificant compared to the huge surgery he was doing! My follow-up visit came with questions related to how he handled my concerns! I woke up from phase1 instantly knowing the cording had been removed from under my arm and an annoying stitch from my mastectomy had been taken out! Both pretty minor compared to the overall diep but nonetheless issues that were big to me. In addition he always kept in mind that I had traveled a long distance and had three boys at home. I was so appreciative that he was always ready to let me get home!

I am so happy that this was where I chose to have my DIEP reconstruction. I had been through a failed expander/implant procedure. I took a great deal of time and effort researching practices that specialized in this procedure across the country and the deciding factors for me was my comfort with my surgeon Dr. Chrysopoulo, the time he tool reviewing my information, photos and needs. The staff are excellent as well very attentive and helpful through out the entire procedure. I would HIGHLY recommend this practice.
