"A patient’s choice for #breastreconstruction may be as much of a psychological choice as it is a physical one." -Barbara Jacoby #BCPEA
At a recent luncheon with a fellow breast cancer survivor, my friend shared that her sister was in the process of making a determination about her breast

"But in the weeks after I learned that the #breastcancer I have been in treatment for over the past year had spread to my bones — breaking my spine and becoming incurable and most likely fatal — finding the perfect living-room couch has begun to feel like the most important thing I’ve ever done." http://nyti.ms/2cXZeQC

Body clock gene may help lethal spread of #breastcancer
Shift work raises the risk of breast cancer, and now a gene associated with the body clock seems to makes its spread more likely in mice

Happy National Previvor Day from all of us at PRMA!
By: Courtney Floyd This week is Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Week and today is Previvor Day! So who is a “Previvor?” The term actually generated from a forum conversation on the FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered) website:

"Being #BRCA positive doesn’t mean our marriage can’t be positive. Our family is full of previvors and survivors, and because we are empowered by the information we have from genetic testing and we know what any of us could face at any time, we are all prepared to support each other. And we’re stronger for it."
Dave told me about his sister's and his mother's breast cancer experiences and his sister's diagnosis when she was only 30 years old. His grandmother had died in her 50s from breast cancer. In the first year that we were dating, I talked a lot with his mother about BRCA and genetic testing, and eventually he, his sister, his mother, and his uncle all had the test and discovered that they were positive for the BRCA1 mutation.

New guidelines say research shows radiation treatment after a #mastectomy decreases the risk of #breastcancer recurrence and patients with small tumors and three or less lymph nodes involved can benefit from radiation therapy.
By: Courtney Floyd New guidelines issued by the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Practical Radiation Oncology and the Annals of Surgical Oncology suggest more breast cancer patients should consider radiation therapy after a mastectomy. The new guidelines say research shows radiation treatment after a mastectomy decreases the risk of breast cancer recurrence and patients with smaller tumors and three or less lymph nodes involved can benefit from radi...

From the beginning I've felt personally cared for, informed, and confident in the procedure recommended by my doctor, Dr. Pisano, and his nurse, Kathleen. The other nurses and staff are wonderful as well. I love how the procedure has turned out so far - even with my scars beginning to heal I can tell I'll be very happy with the final results.

My wife and I cannot possibly say enough wonderful things about the PRMA staff and Dr. Minas Chrysopoulo. Breast Cancer is scary enough with having chemo and surgery -- but finding out that you are a genetic marker carrier (BRCA1) and need a double-mastectomy/reconstruction makes it an even heavier burden to bear. Having done a lot of research into mastectomies, reconstruction, direct-to-implant and other surgeries, we found the DIEP Flap procedure which looked like an amazing solution for her. Researching literally dozens of hospitals and clinics around America we didn't find that many surgeons that even performed the DIEP Flap procedure - and even fewer that produced good aesthetic results. In fact, some of the post op "After" pictures were pretty bad. Continued research led us to PRMA and to Dr. Chrysopoulo specifically. His patient reviews and post-op pictures looked not just good, but EXCELLENT. We traveled to San Antonio (from Colorado) to consult with him and the staff and it was a wonderful experience. Dr. Chrysopoulo truly cares about his patients and he made time to ensure that my wife (and I) fully understood the procedure, the recovery, cancer mitigation, etc. He was very kind as well as informative and he always provided answers to our questions until we were fully satisfied and comfortable with the procedure. From the bottom of both our hearts we thank you, "Dr. C", you live up to the name of RockStar!!!

I have received such awesome care from everyone at PRMA, I'm especially grateful for the care I recieved from Dr. Oscar Ochoa. I cannot say enough about his skilled care before, during and after my surgery for breast cancer. I would recommend him to anyone I care about who needs any kind of plastic surgery. He is AWESOME!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and did not know what to do, until a coworker of mine told me about PRMA. I made an appointment with a surgeon in San Antonio and once I told him that I wanted a double mastectomy with reconstruction he made the call for me and made me an appointment with Dr. Pisano. Needless to say, almost two years later.... I am very pleased with the work that PRMA did. The entire staff is friendly and they make you feel comfortable before and after. Thank you for changing my life and making me feel whole.

I loved the attitudes of the Doctor and PA. Both were considerate and explained everything very well. Anytime I had a question I could call and if not available Kathleen called back soon. Everyone at the office was very efficient and courteous. I would highly recommend Dr. Pisano. His work is excellent!! I am very thankful for the care I received. I believe PRMA has a very caring and efficient staff. All who came to see me were cheerful, encouraging and a blessing.

I had a preventative mastectomy and Diep Flap reconstruction in July 2016 and the peace of mind I feel knowing my heightened risk of breast cancer has been reduced to almost nothing is amazing. My improved body is a nice bonus! Have gotten amazing care from Dr. Ledoux and my nurse Jonnie, and everyone during this process. I have no regrets about my decision and highly recommend PRMA to others!

I've had an excellent experience with PRMA and Dr. Chet Nastala and all the PRMA staff. I had latissimus dorsi flap breast reconstruction on both sides at different times, both with Dr. Nastala. I had also previously had implant reconstruction with another doctor. I would have to say that, by far, PRMA and Dr. Nastala are the best experience I've ever had and I'm very pleased with the results so far.
