Play, Interactivity & Games
Introduction
PIGsty - The AUT Play, Interactivity & Gaming Lab - is a research initiative developed by AUT Colab, that connects game projects, big and small, under-grad, post grad, commercial or serious to resources, funding and staff across all of AUT, Auckland, New Zealand and the world. It also will be working closely with the NZGDA to increase the profile of the NZ gaming industry by increasing the breadth of understanding for gaming opportunities, games-and-learning and learning-about-games for AUT and New Zealand covering creative, commercial and humanitarian game projects. If you are interested in the research of game related topics and/or are thinking about setting up a new business in the area of play, interactivity or games - come talk to us.

Some interesting NZ based wearable tech with some exciting games and play design applications.
From Google Glass to Bluetooth watches, the world of wearable technology is booming. So what happens when you add a bit of Kiwi ingenuity? Science reporter Jamie Morton looks at 10 - New Zealand Herald

To all MCT students in the Serious Play paper.  Here is a marking criteria sheet if you think you need to know a little more about how the submission is graded.  I have added it to the "Public Play Briefs" folder in the "About this community" section if you lose track of this post.

REQUESTING THE USE OF PIGSTY EQUIPMENT
Such as the portable 'Moa' screens.

The Moas do not belong to Colab.  They belong to the Center for Learning and Teaching (CfLaT) and are a part of research projects under the Learning and Teaching Development Fund (LTDF).  PIGsty, (Ben Kenobi) applied for this fund and received 4 Moas for use over two years.  Mina (Laurent) also has two*.  I have given Kim the organizational responsibilities for the PIGsty Moas for the Open Studio events under two provisions.

1. Work in the area of games is favoured over any other art form.
2. Students wishing to use a PIGsty Moa READ and fill out the PIGsty Resource Request Form (see link).

I then informed Kim of the people who have approached me directly during the semester so he could promise one to them first.

I should have linked the form to you back when we discussed it as if you want to borrow an item you must apply for it and agree to the terms.  It is not a 'first-in first-served' situation like SiSo but rather projects are chosen based on merit.  However in this case the PIGsty Moas have all pretty much been organized through conversation throughout the semester.  The request form, then, is there to create an agreement of understanding that use of the equipment comes with responsibilities to the research project.  You must read the form.  Your work will be spread through the PIGsty network.

*the Moas with the Black speakers are under PIGsty's care - the ones with the silver speakers are under Mina's (Laurent's) care.
Drive
PIGsty Resource RequestUse this form to request equipment from PIGsty. PIGsty is not a 'loan out centre' but it has resources that can be used for research projects. The three main areas of research are: - play (interactivity, game development technology/method/technique, play culture, toys) #pigsty_aut - learning and teaching (learning networks, post industrial age pedagogy) #npf14lmd - mobile practices (bring your own device, guerilla office, mobile technology) #dp...
