I ordered a gift certificate for my brother back on Friday, 12/12, to be mailed from the Overture Center (Madison) to my house in Sturtevant. I assumed with two weeks in advance ordering from two hours away that it would be mailed in time for Christmas. When the mail came on 12/17 and I had not received it yet, I wrote a quick email just asking when it might come. I was informed by a staff member that they were all mailed out Monday, 12/15, and that I will have it by the weekend. By Christmas Eve, 12 days after purchase, it still had not arrived. I wrote them again since they were closed expressing how unsatisfied I was with their timeliness and miscommunication and I asked for a refund, since I clearly could no longer give it as a gift for Christmas. The response I received was not apologetic or even diplomatic. It was plain rude. Whoever answered me repeated what I was already misled to believe, made excuses for themselves with USPS range time, refunded my money, and told me to rip up the gift certificate when it arrives because "it is now worth nothing." And now even, 12/30, it has yet to arrive. Horrible customer service. Very disappointed.

Attended the Steely Dan concert in August 2014. Very disappointed that the doors to the 8:00 pm concert were not opened until about 7:40. Because of this, many concert goers were still looking for their seats in the dark when the opening act started to play at 8:00. Acoustics and lighting were good, and the seats were comfortable. However, the seating sections are in very long rows, and we were constantly interrupted by people coming and going to their seats. The venue really needs more access to the seating, like a an aisle in the middle of the row of seats.

We just had a wedding at Overture this past weekend and we were so impressed with the overall experience. The service was absolutely fantastic both in the event setup and the event day. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. There was enough staffing to meet the needs of the group we had. When we were supposed to connect for loading and unloading there was always someone there which kept us on schedule. The food was not only delicious (Fresco) but the portions were also very appropriate for all of our guests (not only those under 5' 3"). I would highly recommend this wedding venue. Kudos to the Overture and Fresco staff!!

We recently had our wedding at the Overture and the space is absolutely beautiful! Even though we were in the main lobby where the ceilings and architecture are tall and open, the space is still intimate. The catering staff/managers were informed and professional, quick workers and provided amazing service the night of the wedding and the hectic week before. The Overture wedding coordinator could have been a bit more helpful and failed to respond to a few emails, causing a last minute room layout/table numbering mix up. But the catering staff was quick to help me solve the problem. Food was amazing. Pricey, but guests came away remembering good food, not boring or bland food, so that was plus. We were a little disappointed at the way the bar pricing was set up. We ended up paying triple the cost of a cheap beer we wanted for our guests, which was a little hard to swallow. Overall, the Overture Center was an amazing space, professional staff, fantastic food, great catering staff, decent organization from the wedding coordinator, and absolutely amazing location for a downtown Madison wedding.

This is a venue review, the events are usually great. I especially enjoy forward Theater plays, often paired with exhibits, pre and post show talks, sessions with the cast, etc. The building is very pretty, but excessive in every way - a good example of "ambition trumps practicality" - too expensive to maintain for a city like Madison. Purchasing wheelchair accessible seat tickets for a theater performance was a big challenge. The staff are often uninformed, if not rude. Not a friendly, welcoming place that Madison deserves. Exorbitant "convenience" fees charged for even the basic service - like buying tickets online - are a joke.

When they charge you $7 a ticket to buy it online.... It tells you what kind of person runs the place. OV convience charge with online tickets is a joke. Cheap cheap cheap......

Beautiful and clean theater. Staff was a mixed bag, some exceptional, others just our right rude and amazingly annoying. You need to tell the dude that sits outside the concert venues who seems to know everything and explains it all at the top of his lungs to shut the hell up. The facilities are immaculate, albeit a tad stuffy, ideal for theater performance or low key music performance. This is not a venue for full out band performances. The rigid seating charts drastically takes away from the live music experience.

This is about ticketing: They say they are "sold out" of tickets for prime events (mostly their flagship "Broadway" shows)), yet for-profit ticketing agencies seem to have plenty of tickets available -- at three to four times the price they would have been through Overture. I cannot understand why they release/sell their tickets to these scalpers and then claim to be "sold out."
