Great write up as usual Jason +Over The Cap I have a question, someone else was asking me.  Does Johnson's 2014 salary of $10 million become fully guaranteed the first day of the regular season if he is on the 53 man roster?

Our look at some of the finer points that will be negotiated in the coming weeks between #NFL teams and draft picks http://overthecap.com/updated-primer-finer-points-nfl-rookie-contract-negotiation/
Not surprisingly draft picks have quickly begun signing contracts with their new teams so this seemed like a good time to dig up our article with a look at a few of the negotiating points that may still exist and update it for 2014. While the parameters of most deals are already decided (as you can see by our rookie estimates that were made months ago) this article should explain what some of the discussions will be about, how they impact the pl...

Thoughts on Colin Kaepernicks huge extension with the #49ers http://overthecap.com/colin-kaepernick-lands-huge-extension-49ers/
The 49ers and Colin Kaepernick agreed to a massive contract extension that puts him in the upper echelon of the position. Per reports by Albert Breer the base value of the contract is worth $19 million a season with a maximum value of $21 million per season. Supposedly the deal contains $60 million in guarantees but the fully guaranteed amount I would be certain was less than this. Last year I though he would max out at $18 million based on cont...

Is #Chiefs QB Alex Smith worth $18 million a season? http://overthecap.com/alex-smith-worth-18-million-season/
Earlier today there was some discussion about Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs negotiations being pretty much at a standstill due to Smith believing he should be paid upwards of $18 million a season. This figure should come as no surprise to those who listen to the podcast or follow my Twitter feed as I’ve mentioned that number many times in the past. Smith was basically considered a bust for the first six or seven years or his career and l...

Thoughts on Andre Johnson, his contract value, and lessons on negotiating contracts #NFL #Texans http://overthecap.com/thoughts-andre-johnson-lessons-learned-contract/
Not unexpectedly Andre Johnson is expressing unhappiness with the Houston Texans according to Brian Smith of the Houston Chronicle. In the article Johnson questions whether Houston is the place for him to finish his career and stated he will not attend offseason activities. At 32 years of age Johnson knows that his career is no longer rising and he is going to spend the declining years on what is a rebuilding team.  He can look around at older v...

How much does each #NFL team need to set aside for draft picks?  Read on... http://overthecap.com/nfl-rookie-salary-estimate-updates/
Today it became known that the NFL and NFLPA agreed to freeze rookie signing bonuses for the third time in three years. Under the 2011 CBA the bonus pool should have risen this year, however I would assume that this side agreement is due to the NFL not reducing bonus money which the CBA equation likely would have done in 2012 and 2013. In general the equation was poorly conceived because the CBA mandated growth in minimum salaries requires somew...
