"It's hard to see racism when you're White": White privilege is hard to see if you're benefiting from it. American sociologist Peggy McIntosh describes white privilege as a "knapsack" or a special bag of benefits that White people can take for granted as they go about their daily lives without harassment, fear, stigma or discrimination. This includes being able to speak up about politics and social injustice and feeling as if you're being heard.
