Great truffle ravioli! Cute and cozy. Not near city center but worth the walk.

Osteria delle Tre Panche, located just outside the city center of Florence, opened in 1986 by Chefs Elisabetta and Saverio Farro. Literally translated as “Three Benches,” Tre Panche is Florence’s smallest restaurant. With only three benches in the entire restaurant to sit at, it is not the size, but the quality of food that makes this little restaurant so special. To begin, the owner brought over complimentary bread for the table, with a spicy tomato topping. Friends who previously visited this restaurant recommended the meatball appetizer, a beef with balsamic sauce, and the “tortelli di pecorino di fossa al tartufo,” translated as pecorino-filled ravioli with fresh truffle. I ordered the ravioli, which were large and stuffed with a mild pecorino that complimented the dish’s sweet cream sauce. The entire dish was coated with fresh truffle, much more than I was expecting. Although the ravioli were on the more expensive side (20 euro), they were excellent and worth the extra cost. As if the meal wasn’t good enough, the cheesecake dessert blew me away, and I can say with confidence that it was the best cheesecake I have ever had. Homemade with their secret recipe, Tre Panche brought the plain cheesecake out warm, served a way I have never experienced. Even if full, the cheesecake is a must-order. One should not overlook the small Osteria delle Tre Panche. Its atmosphere, quality of food, and service make this restaurant stand out among others, and it is a great restaurant to visit when in Florence.
