I think I just realized that I grew up to be the weird friend that the main character calls to learn more about ghosts/monsters/whatever during the exposition segment of the horror movie.

On writing adventures for +Privateer Press:
Though I have played tabletop role-playing games most of my life–and spent more than my fair share of that time as GM–I had never actually written an adventure until I was asked by Matt…

In honor of #AlienDay , some thoughts on what Aliens means to me. #AlienDay426
It was March 14, 1989 when I first saw Aliens in its broadcast television premiere. (Thanks to Jason McKittrick of Cryptocorium for helping me track down the date.) I must have been seven years old…

My latest book is now available for Kindle pre-order, with print orders on their way! Monsters from the Vault collects all of my Vault of Secrets columns on vintage horror cinema, including a few that haven't been published yet, and makes a great companion piece to Painted Monsters if you can't get enough of me rambling about old monster movies.
Monsters from the Vault: Classic Horror Film Revisited - Kindle edition by Orrin Grey. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Monsters from the Vault: Classic Horror Film Revisited.

Whoever wrote the voiceover narration for the (NSFW) trailer for The Devil's Wedding Night deserves a raise...

No Quarter #65 features my first-ever published role playing adventure, "Once Upon a Time in Khadoran-Occupied Llael." It's actually the second role playing adventure I ever wrote; the first is due to be published before too long in something that for now must remain secret...

A new interview with Mike Mignola about the end of Hellboy in Hell, along with a sneak peek at the cover of the final issue, inspired by the same scene in Murnau's Faust that provided the primary inspiration for my story "Night's Foul Bird."

Orrin Grey is a skeleton who likes monsters. When asked, he claims to mostly write oubliettes.
Introduction
I'm a writer, editor, amateur film scholar, and monster expert. My first collection of supernatural stories, Never Bet the Devil & Other Warnings was released by Evileye Books in 2012. I also co-edited Fungi, an anthology of fungus-themed stories for Innsmouth Free Press, where I also write a regular column on vintage horror cinema. I'm a big, big fan of Mike Mignola, and I'll talk about him a lot around here. The rest of the time, I'll probably be talking about monster movies.

As far as circling goes, feel free to circle me. Almost everything I post is public. If I don't circle you back right away, don't feel bad. I don't always keep up with that as well as I'd like, and sometimes people get lost in the shuffle. Just drop me a comment and introduce yourself or something.
Bragging rights
John Langan once called me "the monster guy."

I just bought a pre-owned Saturn Aura from Dominic at Bud Brown Volkswagen and I love the car, and the whole experience was a real pleasure. Dominic and everyone else at Bud Brown were friendly, helpful, and no-pressure and they got us in and out with the minimum amount of fuss. I've had some bad experiences buying cars in the past, but I would definitely go back to Bud Brown the next time I need to buy a car.
