#OpinYon's Cover Story for this week: MIRACLE IN MANILA
"MIRACLES do happen. In 2015, it happened in the City of Manila.
:The miracle came to pass after Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada successfully turned around what many believe to be the worst disaster that has visited that city, a city that for the longest time has been one of the most progressive local government units in the Philippines. "

#OpinYon #Commentary Ike Seneres:
"Believe it or not, there are now many people who are willing to forego their purchase of food, so that they could buy mobile load for calls and texts.
"As it is now however, I would not be surprised if some people are now willing to forego their purchases of food, so that they could buy load for data services, in other words for internet access.
"Since we already know that, we do not need anyone to tell us that both internet and mobile access are now basic human needs."

"Buying new cars will soon be so expensive and beyond the reach of the ordinary wage earners, solons warned recently. This is a win-win solution to decongest our roads and increase government revenues.
"Rep. Dakila Carlo Cua, chair of the House committee on ways and means said imposition of 40% ad valorem tax on new vehicles mean additional P400,000 for a vehicle selling at P1-million now.

#OpinYon's special 2nd Cover Story for this week: DOTr Secretary Art Tugade's "Suspect Loyalty"
"Publicly rebuffed, worse, insulted, twice and still hanging on to the office is an interesting study of a person who claims to be super successful in business and public service.
"Why Tugade has not resigned after those self-inflicted pains baffles OpinYon.
"There must be a reason for this masochism. The likely reason is clearly the interests of some oligarchs, their agenda is to control Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects under the DOTr and the billions of pesos in projects that come with it."

#OpinYon's Cover Story For This Week: #Duterte's China Gambit
"In politics, there must be wisdom in President Rodrigo Duterte’s gambit to shift the country’s foreign policy gear from being too western centric to eastern centric with special focus on China.
"More importantly, President Duterte must know something that the rest of us do not, making him veer away from United States and Europe and drifts towards the waiting arms of our Asian neighbor.
"And the wisdom must be in numbers. While critics accused Duterte of being too parochial whose style of leadership is fit only for his native Davao City, it is turning out that he is adept and abreast with the realities and developments in the international economic scene.
"That he will personally pay a visit to China later this month is an indication that he wants the country to secure good positioning and be part of the dawning of a new world economic era."

‪#‎OpinYon‬'s Editorial For The Week: PCC is right in investigating the P70-billion SMC-Ayala-MVP telco buyout
"This paper believes that the PCC is just doing its job when it decided to check on the aspects of the deal because its mandate is to look into possible unfair business practices such as the creation of monopolies and cartels.
"That the two giant firms had objected to the move was to be expected from them because they are too used to making orders and that they do not expect the government to stand in their way."

‪#‎OpinYon‬'s Cover Story For The Week: Manny V. Pangilinan, lackey for a foreign tycoon, gets a rude awakening from ‪#‎Duterte‬
"Because his spoiled brat attitude was tolerated by the past regimes, he thus started to believe the myth accorded to him by his image handlers that he is God’s gift to our people and the most brilliant businessman this country has ever produced.
"It was a hard habit to break as Pangilinan initially thought he could use his influence and clout even against incumbent President Duterte.
"But he was in for a rude awakening after Duterte told him bluntly that he has no right to dictate what steps the government should take because 'he was just a puppet of foreign-based Salim'."
