TAKE ACTION: Tell Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to rescue the 234 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls from Forced Child Marriage
In the last week, reports of 234 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls have made headlines all over the world. Like you, I've watched the story unfold with new and increasingly horrifying details each day, my heart aching for the girls and their families. But on Thursday a new twist emerged -- the kidnapped girls are reportedly being sold into modern slavery for as little as $12.1
The news has pushed the girls’ parents, and the rest of us, over the edge of despair. “It's unbearable… The abduction of our children and the news of them being [forcibly] married off is like hearing of the return of the slave trade,” said Yakubu Ubalala, whose two daughters were taken by militants during the raid on their school.2
But there is a solution. Experts believe that if the Nigerian Government acts immediately and uses every resource at its disposal, it can locate the girls and return them to their families.3 However for this to happen they need to know that the world is watching -- and waiting.
