I hear, read and see a huge amount of noise and content regarding how important it is to implement "Superfast Broadband" (another lame buzzword in my opinion)...

Surely it's cheaper and quicker to get the entire country running 4G?

If this happened we wouldn't actually need the traditional lines because we could all use 4G enabled routers to power our networks off of a SIM card, or even multiple SIM cards if required.

I've been thinking about this for a while and the plus points far outweigh the negatives.

Unless of course I'm completely missing the point, which I may be doing.

Can anyone shed some light on why this wouldn't be beneficial and the right direction to go down for the UK?

I'm guessing it's capacity and reliability? Fibre winning on both these fronts I would have thought although I haven't looked in to it.

    Founder, 2015 - present
  • Exley and Smith Ltd
    Managing Director, 2013 - 2015
Exley and Smith Ltd combined beautifully responsive designed websites with open source technology. I started the business with Eric Smith on 04/07/2013 and we got to work to create an agency that worked proactively with businesses to advance their digital and offline presence. The business offered a wide range of services that included both online and offline marketing services and was a strong team of 5 in February 2015. At Exley and Smith Ltd I was responsible for generating New Business, Account Management, Networking, Partnerships, Recruiting, Accounts, Payroll, and VAT. I resigned as Managing Director from Exley and Smith Ltd in February 2015 to look for something new. I want to move into something different whilst bringing all of the skills, interest and experience I have gained in the 9 years of being involved in the Digital/Web/Marketing World.
  • Evosite Ltd
    Business Development Director, 2008 - 2013
Evosite Ltd designed fantastic websites for businesses and when I joined the company freelancers were used to develop the websites that were designed in-house. Soon a Development Team was required due to the number of websites that I was sold and Accounts that were being won. Throughout my time at Evosite Ltd I was solely responsible for sales and required a total team of 20 employees to fulfil the work that was won. A number of key Partnerships were set up and turned into a key revenue stream for the business. Some of which are still running and are highly profitable for Evosite Ltd. I made some great friends and continue to learn a great deal about the technology, sector and of course mobile was beginning to enter the mainstream which opened up an entire new World for the industry. Responsive Website Design was becoming popular due to the advancement in mobile and this opened up a huge opportunity to begin working with businesses in new and exciting ways. I advanced my learning through my already found interest in the sector by following blogs, YouTube channels and key social media accounts. Internet speed, both on mobile and through faster accessible connections made this possible. I decided to leave Evosite Ltd in 2008 to start my own Agency that focused on using open source content management systems to power websites. To date I had only experienced working with Agencies who used a closed/proprietary platform.
  • Webeurope
    Business Development, 2006 - 2008
Webeurope was a website design and development company that created websites for a wide range of businesses. My role varied in the 2 and a half years I was there, starting on the phones making appointments for field sales reps to visit. I soon progressed to managing a team of 10. The team varied in age and due to my natural interest and passion for the sector I was passing on knowledge of current and upcoming trends and learning new skills about design and development from the in-house design and development team. During my time at Webeurope Ltd I progressed to field sales once I recruited a new telesales manager and trained them to an excellent standard. I enjoyed my time on the road and visiting businesses and found that I had a natural ability to explain the sector to businesses whilst also providing technical specifications which could be used by the in-house design and development team to create solutions for businesses. I was also fortunate to be in the industry when Facebook was introduced to the public and immediately became interested in social media. I was also figuring out how businesses could use the platform and have followed the ways in which business are using Facebook closely by reading Facebook’s blog, watching their Developers conferences and managing Business Pages. It was from this point that I begun to understand and almost became obsessed with how social media is changing the entire World. Webeurope were planning to change their entire business model from bespoke solutions to a pre built template system and instead of using Field Sales as a strategy to acquire new clients were going to use a mass telesales force to sell websites over the phone. I disagreed with this strategy so decided to leave.
