Gearing up for Chinese New Year!

I’m going to take a minute to share some places and activities that can help you get the most enjoyment out of your time in New York during the annual celebration known as Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year falls on February19th in 2015 which will be known as, “Year of the Goat.” The celebration includes endless amounts of festivals, ceremonies, parades and shows that can keep you occupied for as long as you have the energy. One of the biggest and most well known would be the Firecracker Ceremony & Cultural Festival which is located at Sara D. Roosevelt Park (Grand Street between Chrystie Street and Forsyth Street.) If you’re looking for something memorable, fun, and historic, that would be a great place to start.

There’s also endless amounts to do in Chinatown at any given time. Hungry for authentic Chinese cuisine? Great, because there are hundreds of restaurants to visit, you can consider your taste buds entertained during your visit. You can also find a hundreds of cool shops for souvenirs, jewelry, or even clothing. If you’ve been looking to pick up a new Fortune Cat, this would be the place to do it. These are all common things that you can anytime, however, this is Chinese New Year, let’s talk about the events exclusive to this holiday.

The 16th Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade and Festival happens on Sunday, February 22nd at 1:00pm. This festival is huge, there is a full parade starting at Canal & Mott Street and ending all the way over at Sara D Roosevelt Park. The parade includes floats, lion & dragon dancers, marching bands, beauty queens and even antique cars. There’s really something for everyone and it makes for a unique and unforgettable memory.

More information is always available from our friendly staff anytime you need it. Rooms tend to fill up quickly for these events so give us a call as soon as you can! We’re always happy to see new faces and we would happy to accommodate you in anyway needed.

As always we wish you a wonderful and memorable stay at Off-SoHO Suites!

Hope to see you soon!

An apartment-style lodging with sleek suites (some with shared kitchens & baths) & an art gallery.- Google
"The only problem we had was that the air conditioner worked on high cool always."
"Until then, stay away from this poor excuse for an all suites hotel."

Can't decide to give it 3.5 or 4 stars. We stayed for 4 days and was like our own apartment. It was great value for money. Rooms were very dated with general wear, but everything worked though we did have to ask for the a/c to be fixed, and our entry door as both were not working. Hotel staff were pleasant but somewhat grumpy and considerably rude & unprofessional on 2 occasions but they always complied with our requests which were always reasonable and staff were otherwise pleasant. I would stay here again but only with the right people because of it's low cost and it is on Manhattan, but this is not for everyone. Beds were comfortable. I slept on the sofa bed and it was surprisingly comfortable. Shower was wonderful! Good strong flow, and lovely and hot! Location is close to subways, but is in a rather smelly and unclean part of Soho, so you will need to overlook all this on your way to the Subway! I did not feel unsafe, though. NOTE: You will save money not eating out but you need to do your own shopping for basics eg dish soap, dishcloth, tea towel, general aseptic cleaning wipes, all food, all toiletries, (shampoo/cond/soap is supplied but is minuscule and poor quality), coffee filters. There is a stove and saucepans, but is limited, so don't expect to a lot of fancy cooking - basic only. We ate frozen veg and frozen meals for dinner and were satisfied. We also brought our own paper plates and cups as the ones supplied were quite ridiculous. There is a Whole Foods in close walking distance. I was glad we had blankets in our car and grabbed them at the last minute because there weren't enough blankets, though we didn't ask for more. I don't know whether they had any more, or not. I liked having my own blankets anyway.

When I was booking a hotel - I was not prompted that we (2 ladies) had to share a bath/toilet with someone else (a man) - which we found out already once arrived. It was very inconvenient for all of us. The rooms are not the same as shown on pictures of the hotel website. The front desk had a weird smell that caused an allergy I have never had before.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Please tell us how you booked your room, did you go to our website, OffSoHo.com or through a 3rd party? We have two separate types of rooms, all very ACCURATELY portrayed on our websites and listings. If this is not the case we would like to fix it immediately! We are very sorry about this allergy, and want to make sure that no other guests have the same thing happen, as it has never happened before. What exactly was the smell? What kind of symptoms did you have with this allergic reaction? Please come me directly to make amends. Ninjallc.marketing@gmail.com

Staying here right now. I wish they told me I was sharing an apartment. This place is just an apartment turned into a hotel. All would have been forgiven but the beds are impossible to sleep in. Laying on the bed and pillow feels like in on wood. I feel like I should go to another hotel and just lose the money I paid on this hotel.

O.K., here's the deal...It really is not fancy, and i get where the set up may be a little confusing, but we were a family of four (two teenagers, my husband and I ) and this plays was perfect. There are two separate bedrooms (that are small, but comfortable) and since we were there in August, really appreciated the high functioning air conditioners in both rooms. There is no common seating area (which is a tiny bit of a drag), but there is a full kitchen and nice sized bathroom. The location is amazing, we walked to (and over) the brooklyn bridge, tenement museum, little italy, chinatown, everything. We were exhausted by the end of the night and happy to be in a clean and comfortable environment. The desk staff and maid service were helpful (and soooo friendly) Best deal we have found in the city ever and will definitely be staying there every time we go back. If you are looking for posh, you will be disappointed, but it was exactly what we wanted and I would highly recommend it to families

Good service and amenities but the air con unit was too noisy to use throughout the night. During our stay, it was late 20- early 30'c so it was either noisy a/c or drown in sweat.

When you travel as much as I do, you come to appreciate the little things that make a hotel memorable. Off Soho Suites does the little things, oh so well! Not only are the rooms here incredible, but they all have a cozy apartment style feel with their kitchens and separate rooms. The front desk staff, as well as the folks mingling about are extremely helpful with directions, as well as recommendations for lunch or dinner. I try to stay at Off Soho Suites every time I'm in New York. Believe me, once you stay here, you'll be hooked!
