I have learnt that:
A. *No matter how good you think you are, you should never let it get to your head* Rhonda was so confident cough arrogant cough that she refused to touch gloves. I was asked to attend a Training on Excel and I thought to myself "pft.. I'm a friggen software engineer. I don't just know excel, I write applications that know how to read and write excel" Lo and behold, I was schooled in excel. You should never think you are the sh** you are begging God (the Universe, whatever) to hit you with the hammer of irony. Same with the phrase "what could possible go wrong"
B. *When you are constantly succeeding, people will want you to fail* With rhousey's defeat, many people made public their disdain for her, coming up with memes and making fun of her. Apparently they have been waiting for the moment she'd loose because if holly holm lost, that fight would have been unremarkable as the others
C *Never kick a man/woman when he/she is down* With the news of Rhousey's defeat, Everyone expected Mayweather to laugh his face off or even release some witty quips. But to the amazement of many, he did no such thing saying "You win some, you loose some, It basically comes with the Territory". I think beef aside, I think Rhousey's (and our) respect for Mayweather has increased.. Even if its a teeny little bit. Besides doing so violates A above.
So at the end of the day, Even if you have the stats and facts to prove that you the sh** don't let it fill you with arrogance. Its only an empty spirit that can be filled
While at the MVP Summit, Carl and Richard chatted with Damian Edwards about his work building the new version of ASP.NET.
And this version is different than all those that came before it - ASP.NET 5 is being built as an open source project top-to-bottom, and leaving System.Web behind for an entirely new architecture.
Damian talks about being part of the team that drove open source into Microsoft, including his work on SignalR, originally an open source project on GitHub that was eventually pulled into the ASP.NET stack entirely.
The conversation turns into the new development process going on with ASP.NET, building on GitHub, and taking pull requests from the public while still sticking to an overall plan for the product.
Damian clarifies that while ASP.NET 5 is open source, the version that Microsoft builds and deploys is still a normal signed Microsoft product with proper tech support and so on. There's nothing to fear here!
