Bans in Lisbon and Germany, safety rules in Paris, support in Amsterdam... It often comes down to whether lawmakers view the companies as a threat to local businesses or an opportunity to improve economic growth. #sharingeconomy
For technology start-ups like Airbnb and Uber, efforts to gain a stronger foothold in European countries have been complicated by varying regulations from different governments.

Brilliant post on #ridesharing regulation issues in the U.S.
People love new transportation technologies like Uber, Sidecar, and Lyft that are allowing them to get on their smartphones to quickly and conveniently hail a ride. But with that ease of use, there are several murky areas that could in the end negatively affect the public. Public and non-profit ridesharing or commuter-services programs all across the country have been part of the national transportation program for decades and depend on federal a...

No need to fear
Until now we have been approaching our cars and our apartments without thinking economically. If we want to change that, it is neither communism nor turbo capitalism. It is not to reach a higher moral goal either and certainly not an evil act. It is simply reasonable and in addition also human and beautiful.

Interesting comparison of the casual sharing of rides with the casual sharing we're all used to in elevators: "we do put up with extra stops on the way rather than demanding our own private elevators — and we think nothing of walking to a bank of elevators instead of expecting one to pick us up at our desk"
In addition to being self-driving, autonomous vehicles may revolutionize the car industry by making vehicle sharing the norm, rather than the exception.
