Its the day of love, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Some people say that Valentine’s Day is too commercial — and maybe it is. But as the 14th of February rolls around I always get nostalgic. I think about when I was a child and the kids in my class shared Valentine’s cards with each other. We all collected them and read and re-read the cute and sweet messages to each other. It was so innocent. I am also a hopeless romantic but think that the day of love is not just for lovers. It’s for loved ones.

The heart has many ways to love. Friendly love. Family love. Parental love. And of course romantic love. They may be different but the one thing all these types of loves share is they come from the same place. Our hearts. And when we open our hearts and give love, we get it back even more.

My secret to giving you a great massage is…

Coconut oil.

Surprised? It may sound simple but coconut oil is essential to a great massage. The sweet tropical smell makes me imagine I am on a sandy beach with the sun on my back and a breeze fluttering the leaves of a nearby palm tree… but I digress.

Coconut oil has many uses. People use it for their hair, skin care, weight loss, digestion and their immune system. It can be used for many types of health remedies, from helping those with kidney problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer. It contains powerful anti-microbial agents like capric acid and lauric acid to protect skin against infection.

Feeling drained?

We recommend a Lymphatic Drainage Massage for better health and weight loss.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD) may not sound fun or relaxing, but you can trust, this is a wonderful type of massage that doesn’t just relax you, it can boost your immune system to improve your health and even help with weight loss by ridding your body of toxins and cellulite. If you’ve never heard of MLD, you may be surprised how long this technique has been around. It was developed in the 1930’s to help people improve the drainage of their lymph system. Why is this so important?

We all have a lymph system that works like the clean-up crew after a house party. It rids your body of waste but if things aren’t working properly or your crew is sleeping on the job, your system can get blocked. And this can affect your immune system, which affects your health.

Want to lose weight and cellulite? Massage can help!

In addition to exercise and diet, massage can make a difference too. A massage works on a deeper level to improve your circulation and supply vital nutrients to your muscles and blood vessels. To make the most of a massage on weight and cellulite, a regular massages every two weeks is recommended.

I always recommend a good diet and drinking lots of water to help you keep your skin and muscles stay hydrated. A massage works on a deeper level to improve your circulation and supply vital nutrients to your muscles and blood vessles. Are you wondering what this has to do with weight loss?

According to research, massage helps your muscles to develop and this can increase your ability to lose weight. If you are exercising, you will burn more calories and this leads to losing fat as you gain more muscle.

And ladies, let’s talk about how massage can help to cut cellulite. Unlike creams or supplements, massage can distribute fat and release it into the body where it will be absorbed.

Your metabolism is also stimulated during massage and this is another way to reduce cellulite. You can actually help your body to burn nutrients and increase metabolism with a massage session.

Studies show that when muscles are massaged they relax and recuperate faster than without massage. This means that your body will burn nutrients even faster, which leads to reduced fat. You see, our bodies store fat throughout our bodies. And during a massage, I work on your muscle and skin to break up fat cells.

Why Massage?

The most obvious benefit shared by virtually everyone is that a full body massage makes you feel great! The stress-relieving, soothing results are enough for many to include massage as a regular part of their lives. But what of the less obvious benefits?

The first sense to develop is your sense of touch. It’s not surprising when you consider that each square inch of your skin contains roughly 50 nerve endings. With as many as five million total touch receptors in your skin relaying messages on to your brain, your body’s initial response to massage is to relax and de-stimulate. Even a simple touch has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce the heart rate. Touch can also signal the brain to produce endorphins, your body’s natural pain suppressors.

Going deeper, massage can restore suppleness and strength to your muscles, improving their overall function. It’s the ideal treatment for releasing tension or muscles in spasm and helps to release toxins such as lactic acid (produced by muscle tissue during exercise), as well.

It's the New Year, there is lots of talk of resolutions. Many people will make a resolution to concentrate on their health and many of my clients ask me, is it important to detox? In a word, Yes.
Our bodies detoxify naturally with about 10% of that process occurring through the skin in conjunction with organs such as the liver, and kidneys. If one of those organs is stressed, you’ll get even less.
We live in an environment with many chemicals in our homes, and in the air we breathe, we eat processed foods, and use microwave ovens, not to mention daily use of cell phones, TV’s and computers, we don’t exercise as much as we should and we have increased levels of stress… This increased toxic load on our bodies means we absorb more than we can naturally get rid of, which may lead to increased rates of diseases like cancer or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Let’s rest and relax!

You know how these cooler days and darker mornings make it harder to get up in the morning? It’s not just because of the winter weather, it’s your body telling you it needs more time to rest. Lately my body has been telling me, “Susan. Take it easy. Relax!”

So that is what I am planning to do during the Christmas holidays. I am going to stop working and start relaxing. I am taking two glorious weeks off to relax and rejuvenate with family and friends so I can come back rested and ready for 2018.

Are you looking for the best massage in Vancouver? Oceana Massage has been voted for the Top Choice award multiple years in a row.

With more than a decade of experience, our treatments are customized to suit each of our client’s unique needs and desires. We might combine swedish massage, light-touch massage, therapeutic deep tissue massage and even some stretching of muscles and joints to address the issues you have come in for. While we can offer light touch massage that is common for relaxation, our goal is always to improve your well-being not just while you are on the table, but after you leave. This means that we might go a bit deeper than typical treatments will (with your permission of course), leaving you feeling not only more relaxed than you ever have, but also rejuvenated.
