Why would this resort not be a good place for a solo traveler to visit and only good for couples as one reviewer stated? I am wanting to book this hotel for vacation in November but want to make sure this will be a nice stay.

Indeed we have had many guests return alone after experiencing how well suited our hotel is to the solo traveler. Apart from our attentive employees, our animation team offer a varied selection of daytime and nighttime activities to enjoy and participate in and our bars and lobby deck offer great opportunities to meet other guests. There are also so many wonderful tours, excursions and days out experiences to enjoy in this part of Costa Rica, rest assured you won`t feel bored or alone! Very nice staff. Could do without the stairs but aside from that the food was great and the facilities are clean.

My wife and I chose Costa Rica for our honeymoon, as we both speak Spanish fairly fluently, and have also heard many great things about the country from friends and family. We also decided to split our honeymoon into 2 - half all-inclusive resort, and half bed & breakfast tree-house. We chose the Occidental Grand Papagayo as our all-inclusive destination, as advised by others. Our experience for the first few days was, although extremely hot & humid (time of year/geographic location), quite pleasant. We were nearly smothered by the employees there, who were calling our room and following-up with us for just about every service/amenity the resort offered. The restaurants and buffets were nice, and the facilities were completely acceptable (although I couldn't seem to get the A/C cool enough). Again, the employees there were putting in over-the-top efforts to be hospitable to their guests. The unpleasant experience wasn't until our last day there. My wife had brought with her a brand new pair of shoes with sparkly blue gems & stones, which she'd purchased specifically for this trip. She intentionally placed all of her shoes in the corner of our room, so as to be easily accessible. When we were cleaning-up our room in preparation for check-out, we realized those shiny, blue sandals were absolutely NOWHERE to be found. After packing away all of our belongings in the room, checking in our bags, and spending the next two hours literally turning the room in-side out - we simply could not find them....the shoes were gone. We called the front desk concierge to alert them of the missing shoes, and they said they would speak with room service. Fast forward 30 minutes later, when we arrived to the front desk to check-out, to our absolute astonishment they had since sent one of their bellhops, who claimed to have found our missing shoes "right next to the bed". Complete BS. We spent a significant amount of time searching the room inside out...we looked under every nook and cranny, under the bed, under all of the furniture. The room was completely empty - there were no shoes. The look of shame on each of the employees faces when they told us this made it further evident that someone had stolen them, but they lacked the decency to apologize and confess to what had happened. In fact, they actually placed the blame back on us for losing our shoes. Absolutely Unbelievable! Not at all what we'd expect from a place that costs this much, and from a resort that is seemingly trying so very hard to exceed customer service expectations!

Great place! Perfect in every way if you are there as a couple. Not a singles resort in any way. Lots of walking but that's ok because it is scenic with animals. One downside is no pool bar open late. Would go back for an anniversary or something. Recommend having a rental car since Costa Rica is an absolutely beautiful country to drive around and traffic is not too bad. If you can drive in a city you can drive there. Just need maps. Go to the beach and find the tour guide named JD, he is an amazing man and will be a great friend of yours before you leave!

Lousy. I will never book an all inclusive again because of the service here! The food was horrible and you eat when they want you to eat. They make you sit for hours before they take you to your room. $3400.00 for 4 days and I would have rather stayed home. Took my girlfriend there for a romantic get away, to ask her to marry me and they ruined it for us!

Very lovely hotel I would like to know how far is this hotel from SJO AIRPORT?

Dear Carlita, Thank you for your query. The hotel is situated in the Papagayo Peninsula, Guanacaste and is approximately a 4 hour drive from San Jose Airport. There are transfer services, and autobus routes that can transport guests to our hotel and there are also two regional airlines, Sansa and NaturAir that fly from San Jose to Liberia.
