CNBC Story: Fit classrooms: Exercise moves from gym to desk

A yearlong pilot project at Oakridge Elementary School in Arlington, Va., showed using pedal desks, standing balance desks and ball chairs led to behavioral improvements among students, said teachers, parents and pupils. Principal Lynne Wright said teachers found students were more cooperative and less disruptive, and they did better at staying on task.

Remember back in January when we shared this video of Marina High School students building a full-scale Viking ship under the direction of woodshop teacher Bob Meade?

OK, so as we mentioned, Marina High in Huntington Beach is the home of the Vikings, and the shipbuilding project served as a fun way to inspire school spirit while promoting hands-on STEM education, project-based learning, historical research and art. But while the 30-foot vessel is expressly symbolic of Marina pride, it was never meant to simply be a display piece. In fact, the plan all along has been to launch it over at Huntington Harbour.

Well, the school did exactly that on Friday, May 20, and once again our Media Services team was there with cameras rolling.

Was it a successful maiden voyage for the Valhalla? Did the ship perform as designed? Were there Viking helmets? Click on the video above to find out.
