Remote workforce

A survey from Eurostat found 48% of companies across the EU Member States had provided their employees with a mobile device in order to enable them to work from home. The implications of this are obvious, flexibility takes an enormous amount of pressure away from commuters and increases their productivity, flexible hours allow single parents the opportunity to continue a career, bringing up a family at the same time more successfully – keeping more people in employment who otherwise may not cope. At the same time though, whilst 70% of those surveyed wanted flexibility and the opportunity to work from home over half of these people were unable to. How adaptable are you, do you allow your staff to work under their own initiative and timeline?

Data protection regulations are you prepared?

How many privacy policies in reality have you read from start to finish? More importantly, if you have, do you understand them? If you haven’t and you can’t, will your customers understand how you handle their information? There is a need for a simplified clearer format; called for in the new EU Data Protection Regulation. With emphasis on a ‘one stop shop’, a unification of directives already in place with enhanced features, the council are striving for a workable and enforceable solution. At the beginning of August this year, over 2 million mobile phone customers discovered there had been a data breach. Although not an isolated event and dominant in the headlines for a few days, has anything actually changed in light of these occurrences? Are customers any better protected from identity theft? The new directives intend to put protection in place. If a company has data breached, if feasible, they must now notify the national supervisory authority within 24 hours.
