Northwest CrossFit is an amazing gym with amazing coaches. I've been going to the Bellevue location for just under two years, and have gone to nearly 250 classes. I can honestly say I'm a different person, both physical and mentally, than when I started. CrossFit can be incredibly intimidating for beginners, and it's extremely important to work with coaches who value safety above all, and would rather see perfect form than heavy weights or fast WOD times. NWCF is exactly this. I don't think there's been a single class where either a coach or another seasoned member has not given me tips and advice on how I can improve. Each and every time I ask for help, the coaches are more than happy to demonstrate the movement, watch me, provide some constructive criticism, and watch me do it again. Every other gym I've ever been to, people just put on their headphones, don't look at anyone else, walk up stairs for 45 minutes while watching Food Network, and then go home and eat a muffin that contains the exact number of calories they burned walking up stairs. NWCF actually has a community feel. You'll get used to seeing the same faces over and over again. People are always chatting before or after class and talking about their goals, what they're working on, and what they've accomplished. Coach Duy will randomly show up with Fireball shots. There's also random parties, various hiking trips, dinners, etc. If you're the least bit curious about CrossFit, I'd recommend signing up for a one month trial at NWCF, which will include a two week "on-ramp" class, where you'll be with people who are also completely new. If it still sounds super scary, just scale back the weight, focus on awesome form and technique, take it slow, and value safety over ego. You'll be fine!

Yes, it can be intimidating. Yes, it can be challenging. And YES, it is FUN! I look forward to going to NWCF all the time. Going to NWCF has become my "happy hour." The coaching staff and members are very supportive and encouraging. The coaches take the time to go over the movements at the beginning of each workout and stress proper technique and form, which incredibly important. Not every gym will do that for you. They take an interest in the personal progression of each athlete and help tailor workouts or movements for each individuals athlete's ability levels. The atmosphere is goal-oriented and makes you strive to give it your all each workout. Becoming a part of the NWCF community has been very rewarding. I have met and made many new friends. Everyone cheers you on and encourages you to give it all you got and congratulates you on achievements and workout milestones. Before workouts start, everyone is chatting and laughing and there are many social activities outside of the gym. You don't get this kind of personal connection at your standard cookie-cutter gym. Crossfit can be intense, but has been one of the most rewarding activities I have ever done. Frankly, one of my top 3 best decisions I have made in 2014. It has not only strengthened and shaped my physical self, but my inner confidence as well. You will learn and do things you thought you couldn't possibly do. It is an incredible feeling when you look back on your progress. I keep coming back for more and so glad that I have become a part of the NWCF community.
