Floating Access pontoons installed on the River Trent, Scunthorpe.

Floating Access pontoons installed on the River Trent, Scunthorpe.
Northern Pontoon supply, install and operate floating equipment to carry out maintenance works to the underside of Keadby Bridge, Scunthorpe, Yorkshire.
Over a two week period repairs will be completed throughout the structure, Northern Pontoon operatives remain on site to position the pontoon each day and also provide safety cover.

Bridge History
Keadby Bridge, more formally known as the King George V Bridge, crosses the River Trent near Althorpe and Keadby in Lincolnshire, England. The King George V bridge was opened by King George V, the chairman of the railway company and Lindsey County Council on 21 May 1916

This Scherzer rolling lift bridge carries both road and rail traffic across the River Trent. It was built between 1912 and 1916 by the Great Central Railway to replace a previous swing bridge built by the South Yorkshire Railway in 1866. It carries a double track railway line on the southern side, and the two-lane, single carriageway A18 road on the north side.

From the extreme weather of the Isle of Uist to the warmth of London Sealife.

From the extreme weather of the Isle of Uist to the warmth of London Sealife.
Northern Pontoon successfully competed the installation of a safe floating work platform on the top of the London Sealife Atlantic Tank.
Extreme care had to be taken throughout the installation of this project, from the cleanliness of pontoon modules and tools to ensure no aquatic diseases were imported into the tank, and the importance that no items were dropped into the water causing harm to the marine life. Our team installed the pontoon system over a 3 day period, allowing marine life to adjust to the surface of the water being covered.
The floating work platform will be in position for approximately 5 weeks for the construction of a new Merlin attraction and access facilities for Sealife staff. On completion our operatives will dismantle the pontoon work platform and sterilise the modules prior to returning to our depot for the next project.

Island of North Uist In-Take Pontoon

Northern Pontoon operatives have completed the installation of a drinking water intake pontoon on the remote island of North Uist. The Loch is situated approximately 45 minutes away from the closest road across rough terrain, so our operatives transported the Aqua-Dock pontoon modules and boats to the loch using quad bikes and a tracked dumper. Once the modular pontoon was installed and anchored into position divers then installed a bespoke fabricated bracket designed by Northern Pontoon to support a 180mm HDPE pipe underneath the pontoon which provides a main source of water to the small village of Loch Portain.

Northern Pontoon Ltd supply a floating work platform and MEWP for emergency bridge repair works at Bank Bridge, Tarleton near Preston.

Bank Bridge on the A59 near Tarleton has been badly damaged after being struck by a vehicle over the weekend.

The incident has left a gap in the parapet wall on the Preston bound side of the bridge. For safety the road is currently being restricted to one-way traffic controlled while Northern Pontoon & LCC engineers carry out the repair works.

Northern Pontoon engineers have been working hard over the weekend to recover the fallen stonework out of the water so that the damaged wall can be reconstructed as soon as possible. As the bridge is a Grade II listed structure, much of the original stonework will need to be reused.

Northern Pontoon will remain on site throughout the project, providing floating plant, on site engineers and safety support.

Northern Pontoon have recently been awarded the contact to supply and install modular pontoons for the construction of The Mersey Gateway.
Our modular pontoon system will be used to create floating walkways to cofferdam works and safety boat access on the project.

The Mersey Gateway is a new road bridge across the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal in north-west England, which began construction in May 2014. The bridge will be located approximately 1.5 km (0.93 mi) to the east of the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge that connects the towns of Widnes and Runcorn.
