As the warmer weather arrives, it seems to bring an ever-increasing to-do list with it.  Here are some great ideas for intentionally slowing down and enjoying some R&R time this weekend:

Do you find yourself lying awake at night thinking of everything you need to do the next day? Checking your emails before you’re even out of bed? Talking about how busy you are? Hard work and having a work ethic can be great things, but we all need a break. So give yourself at least one weekend day off and find places around the home to slow down and recharge.

Home improvement projects not only bring a great deal of joy to the owner, but help boost a house's resale value enabling the owner to recoup most of their investment.

Homes go through changes too, like this vintage house in Evanston that started out as a single family home, then became 2 apartments, then back to a single family home again. Normandy's Troy Pavelka helped its current owners re-imagine the first floor to merge 2 tiny kitchens with a sleek & modern design. http://www.normandyremodeling.com/evanston-kitchen-remodeling-marc-judy/

An open layout is by far one of the most popular requests we get for people undertaking a kitchen remodel. But this open floorplan isn’t right for everyone, as this writer shares her regrets for going with an open kitchen for her home. Are any of these the same concerns you share?
I always dreamed of having a big, open kitchen. The lonely kitchen was separated from the dining room by a long hallway.  After college I lived in a cramped New York City apartment with a galley kitchen so small that I finally gave up cooking altogether, replacing my oven with a washer/dryer. Everything that was done was done to the highest quality. The people there were thoughtful, they anticipated problems, they solved problems. Our kitchen remodel did not go perfectly -- there were some issues with the flooring materials and with the faucet that was ordered -- but it cost us time, not money. Designer Troy Pavelka was exceptionally attentive -- a call did not go unanswered. And his design solved problems in a solid way -- it looked good, it worked, and it was in keeping with our more than 100-year-old home. Supervisor Chris Beck was similarly on the ball. We are exceptionally satisfied with the final result. And we would use them again -- even though they are not cheap. But you got what you paid for.

We had a second floor bathroom that needed to be remodeled. We interviewed 3 companies and decided to go with Normandy. I'm glad we did because they exceeded our expectations. Not only was the work completed to our satisfaction but also the team was very easy to work with. Karen Chanan was our designer and did a superb job. She started with our ideas and made the end result even better. The modern spa-like bathroom has design touches that blend perfectly with our 1925 era home. Bruce, the project manager, made sure the work was high quality and kept the communication open with us. The process was very smooth and we would certainly use Normandy again!

Normandy did a fantastic job remodeling our kitchen. We don't want to leave the area! Troy, the designer, and Ken, the superintendent on the job, made sure that our remodeling ran smoothly. Ken was continually on site to make sure that everything was moving along quickly and done correctly. He hired workers that are very efficient, friendly, and trustworthy. Could not have had better crews in our home. Troy always showed up to make sure his design was as superb as the original plans showed. The complete demolition and remodeling of our kitchen only took 5 weeks! Way ahead of schedule, due to Ken's ability to coordinate the workers. We cannot say enough good things about Normandy! A very efficient and trustworthy company.

Normandy has exceeded our expectations again on our second project with them. Nine years ago they completed our gorgeous master suite and recently finished our new hall bathroom. Troy Pavelka, Architect/Design Manager, did a fantastic job designing our project with the most current materials on the market. Joe Campea, Superintendent, led the construction and completed the job ahead of schedule. The reasons we used Normandy a second time included the excellence of the design and materials, the superb coordination of construction projects, the quality of the work, and the great communication and friendliness of the team. We enjoyed being able to look at a variety of different materials right in the showroom and make our selections with the help of the designer/architect. The whole process went very smoothly. Thanks again, Normandy!

We had a terrific experience with Normandy. After researching companies in the area, several friends recommended Normandy and we scheduled a meeting with Vince Weber to discuss remodeling our kitchen. It was immediately clear that Vince was a fantastic architect and that he really cared about our opinion. He was also very sensitive to our budget and never pushed to go above it. The Normandy remodeling team was incredibly professional. They kept to their timeline and kept everything contained to the kitchen so we never had to deal with a mess outside of the construction area. The team was very responsible and accommodating. We absolutely love our new kitchen - it brings a smile to our faces each morning during breakfast and every evening gathering around our beautiful center island preparing dinner. Vince Weber and the Normandy team really are terrific to work with - we are already planning a second project for next year with them!

We are midway through a major renovation with Normandy Remodeling and would rate the planning process and project at the highest level, so far. Our architect, Vince Weber, has been outstanding to work with. From the start, we felt comfortable with Vince and choose to work with Normandy mainly because of him. He was patient, flexible and really listened to what we wanted to do and helped us design the home that would fit our lifestyle. Not having any renovation experience, Vince has been instrumental in helping us throughout the planning and design process. Because he understands our vision, we trust the selections he presents us with and feel confident that the overall outcome will come together beautifully. Al Lovas, our Superintendent, has been great to work with as well. He has been flexible and accommodating with changes we have made and always available when needed. Our project is on time, making great progress and looks amazing so far. We would and have highly recommended Vince and Normandy to several friends and neighbors.

We were delighted with the bath design Leslie Lawrence did for us. It's creative, imaginative, and a great space. Leslie's kitchen suggestions, for our modest update, were right on target, too. About Normandy Builders as a whole...maybe I would have had more glowing comments about them except we had an entire home built out of state, and that experience was wonderful. There were a few minor screw-ups (possible in any construction project), but, my husband had to find solutions on-line, when we were told what we were requesting was "not possible." Well, they were possible...just took a little work to find the answers. I had the feeling that if the project was exactly as they had done other projects, then there wasn't a problem. If, however, you asked about a possible alternative that was not in their regular repertoire, the answer was that that was not possible. In more than one instance, my husband found the answer on line. When we presented our findings, Normandy was happy to do what we requested. It was just disconcerting, to me,( especially given the cost of this renovation), to be told "that's not possible" without any investigation on their part.

In 2009, we interviewed three different design-build companies and ended up selecting and working with Normandy for our kitchen and bathroom remodel. From the start, we were impressed by Ann Stockard's (our designer) knowledge, ideas and professionalism. Ann continued to be a terrific asset throughout the entire project which ended up beautifully - not only on budget, but ahead of schedule. I would highly recommend working with Normandy and specifically, Ann Stockard, as well as our construction superintendent, Ken Garrison. We've referred several friends to Ann and her colleagues, and they too have been extremely satisfied customers.
