Not long now until the Broads summer season finally begins. Spring Bank Holiday, at the other end of the month is regarded as the start of the season proper. The long days of June are just around the corner. So start looking forward to al-fresco lunches and evenings watching the sun go down perhaps with a glass of wine in hand. We still have Spring Bank Breaks on offer starting at £107 per person for 4 nights aboard Spring Horizon, a 3 berth cruiser starting from Stalham on the 28th May.

You will very likely cruise to or through Horning on your next visit to the Broads. If so you will be interested in our guide to this charming village on the banks of the River Bure. We show you where to moor, which establishments offer food and drink and point out the local attractions.

Downhill to summer at last. The days are just starting to get longer and the snowdrops are out at the time of writing. It's still mid-winter but this is the time of year we all start dreaming of those warm sunny afternoons on the river with perhaps a glass of wine in hand while watching the sun lazely make it's way across the seemingly endless Norfolk skies. The next stop is Easter which being at the end of March, this year will mark the start of the new boating season. There's still plenty of availability so if you are aching to get back afloat, this will be your first opportunity.

For those who have never visited St. Olaves on the River Waveney, we have included a guide to show you what there is to see and do. You might be surprised that the village houses both what is considered the oldest public house on the Broads together with the ruins of a 14th century Priory. I always think that the view from the end of the moorings looking down river towards Yarmouth is spectacular with it's unforgiving ruggedness.

For more on any of the above - including many offers for the Easter weekend starting at £73 per person for a six berth cruiser Gold Gem from Stalham - see our latest newsletter :

You know Christmas is over when Easter eggs are on sale in many Co-op stores and the summer holiday adverts are on the TV. I am just wondering what the bookings market will be like this year as there are mixed signals. There is a wages squeeze as salaries have not kept pace with inflation so there will be less to spend on luxury items like holidays. However, this could translate into less people affording holidays abroad and opting to stay in the UK this summer. Booking levels for 2018 are pretty much at the same level as this time last year so who knows?

The deals I mentioned in my last post are still in operation though with a warning that they can end at any time. So for now you can still save up to 15% on boats for any duration, right across the summer from six boatyards across the Broads. Full details are in our latest newsletter.

The Waveney River Centre is located on the River Waveney, not far from Oulton Broad. The centre is not just for boats. Holiday lodges and touring caravan spaces are also on-site. To cater for all these people the centre is a mini-resort with a bar and restaurant, an indoor heated swimming pool and a supermarket. Add to that wonderful walks through the adjacent marshes and you have a great place to stay over. More details in our January newsletter here:

The cold dark months of winter have just begun and we are already thinking of Easter 2018. And why not! It's good to have something to look forward to when all you have to contemplate are long dark nights and frosts. So if you are interested in planning your first break away of the new season, this issue of our newsletter is for you. For example, we have 4 day breaks starting on Easter Monday aboard Supreme Gem, a 10 berth cruiser from Stalham for £61 per person including damage waiver and fuel deposit. Currently, many yards are offering a discount to entice you and you can book with a low deposit from just £50 per boat so the Christmas shopping is not compromised.

If you have always wanted to visit the Ferry at Surlingham but have not made it yet, our monthly guide will show you what you have been missing. See it here:

The October half term break is throwing up some extraordinary offers with savings of over £400 on some boats. For example, you can hire the superior range boats Brooklyn Bridge or Richmond Bridge from Bridgecraft in Acle with an astonishing £459 slashed from the normal price. If you always wanted to get your hands on a top of the range cruiser but found it too expensive, take a look at these offers! See our newsletter for another 10 hand-picked great deals. Staying with Bridgecraft, if you are looking to book for 2018, a flash sale this weekend can save you an extra £50 plus a 5% discount off selected boats.
Great Yarmouth is the holiday resort where the nothern and southern rivers of the Broads meet. The trip to or through Yarmouth can be daunting and a little demanding if the tides are against you. But with a little care, can be undertaken by even first time boaters. Read more about Yarmouth in our monthly newsletter guide:

The nights are starting to draw in and though it's still mild out there you get the feeling we are being guided towards the long winter months and that's not a pleasant thought. The Autumn Half Term Break is your last chance to get the family together for a break before Christmas. For £77 per person you can hire Dream Gem, a six berth cruiser for 4 nights commencing Monday 23rd October. The price includes the fuel deposit and security waiver. Take a look at our September newsletter for more half term suggestions.

Also in our newsletter is a guide to the village of Bramerton which though it lies just 3 miles short of the fine city of Norwich, is situated in delightful countryside on a picturesque bend of the River Yare.

The last public holiday of the summer - August Bank Holiday - is now only a few weeks away. This weekend is usually a sell out as it allows the whole family to get away while the weather is still warm. But availability is now tight. As such, I have listed boats which are still available to book for 3, 4 and 7 night breaks incorporating the 28th August - the public holiday. Prices start at £104 per person for a 4 night break aboard Sandpiper, an 8 berth cruiser out of Reedham.
Reedham Ferry is the highlight of this month's town and village feature. It lies around one mile upstream of Reedham village and is the site of Norfolk's last working chain ferry. The Reedham Ferry Inn is riverside and offers extensive moorings.

We are in to July now and the race to find a boat for the school summer holidays is hotting up and many of the larger parties will already be disappointed that the choice is so limited. I have put together a selection of boats which are still available across the first couple of weeks of August - for the time being at least!

The Problem: You want to visit Norwich on your holiday but find you do not have time to make it all the way up the River Yare on the southern rivers. You can still fit it in by taking the train which helpfully is available from a few of the villages you will cruise past both on the northern and southern rivers.

The idyllic village of Irstead is the subject of our interest this month. This pretty little village can be found on the banks of the River Ant just before entering Barton Broad. A stopover will enlighten you as to why it is so popular. If you see a mooring, grab it while you can.

The longest day of the year is the other end of this month and it definitely feels like summer at the moment. Why not take advantage of June's off season prices to sneak a short break or week away whilst the weather is good, the moorings are easier to find and the days are long? We have plenty of suggestions in our latest newsletter.

Hickling. That's the other side of Potter Heigham Bridge isn't it? Wondering what it's like and if it's worth visiting on your next voyage? Make your own mind up by reading the guide in our newsletter. We tell you where to moor, highlight Hickling's local attractions and point out where you can get a meal and a pint!

Lastly, for those people due to visit the Broads in June or July, we have updated our Live Music and Other Events listing. Amongst other events you will find a folk festival at Ludham Bridge and a Beer Festival at the village of Upton to keep you entertained.

Spring Bank Holiday is just the other end of the month and despite it signalling the start of the busy season there are still boats available if you want to get away for a few days. For £110 per person you could be sailing San Rafael, a five berth cruiser from Stalham. She would be yours from Monday 29th May to the following Friday. Fuel deposit and damage waiver are included in the price. The days are longer, the weather is better. It's time to get out onto the water again.

Our Live Music and other events page has been updated to include what's on as far as the end of June. If like us you prefer some evening entertainment with your pint, take a look at the Live Music page.

Finally, Beccles is a fine Norfolk Broads market town located in Suffolk! It has lots of charm and is a great stop off point on your next cruise itinerary. Find out what's what with our Lowdown Guide.
