Ive stayed in many many hostels in Auckland, some great and some terrible. This is one of the better ones for the price. Good sized room in the 12 bed dorm and a nice window with a breeze. Staff awesome, kitchen reasonable and great to have an outdoor area. Showers are average and the shower mats are pretty uncomfortable/painful to stand on but that's just a petty complaint. Am yet to try the internet. A good budget hostel that exceeded my expectations for the price. Will extend my stay.

Great hostel. Good location and attached to a nice bar and restaurant. There were nightly events. Staff were helpful and informative. Kitchen was good and spacious. Only downsides were that there was no free wifi and the beds were uncomfortable and squeeky!

I think I don't have to say something about the awesome location right in the heart of Auckland. The staff always tries to exceed its expectations and also the rooms (depending on the room size) are charming and fit the needs of backpackers. The only thing I want to claim is that there are to few plugs in the rooms to fit everyones needs. All in all I really have to say I enjoyed the stay with you guys!

Hi Gerhard, thanks so much for your great feedback! We are stoked to have pleased you and we will definitely be looking at increasing the amount of plugs we offer in the rooms! We hope you will come back soon to visit us! Thanks Nomads Auckland Management

Rooms are stuffy and stifling, not to mention - seriously noisy! I ended up sleeping in the common room so I wasn't kept awake by the smell of bloke's sneakers and about 10 men snoring like wilderbeasts! The shared bathroom idea sucks - you can't even take a dump in private! Only stay here if you don't value your privacy or peace and quiet! :P

Hi there, thank you very much for your review! We are sorry to hear that the rooms with the blokes and the unisex bathrooms put you off a bit and you ended up sleeping in the common room. Our reception is occupied 24hours so our staff might have been able to move you to a female only dorm? We also hand out free ear plugs from reception for those to kill the noise of those horrible snorers ;) We hope you enjoyed the atmosphere and made use of our free daily walking tours around Auckland and our free Spa and Sauna?! All the best, Nomads Auckland Management

First of all...we walk in to check into our room...what do the staff do? They see us, then turn around and walk to the back of their office and chat/laugh/flirt and leave us standing there like idiots for a good 5 minutes watching them talk and laugh before even acknowledging our presence. Secondly...I wouldn't recommend staying here if you plan on having fun...from a simple funny conversation with friends to drinking alcohol. We stayed there on a Saturday night, we booked it so we could go out drinking. But found out there is no drinking allowed at all in the hostel (couldn't find that on the website - this would be EXTREMELY helpful to point this out, as I would have booked somewhere else), but because we had already paid for the room, we still had some drinks, but a lot earlier than we normally would and left the premises early around 9:30pm. We got told off for talking too loudly at 7pm!!! Understandable if it was say 10pm but 7pm?? This hostel is ideal for people who want to sleep and talk like librarians (I understand this due to jet lag, but seriously 7pm?) Staying in a hostel full of young travellers and even locals that is right in the middle of town should be expected to produce a fair amount of noise and excitement. Great location though and rooms were a little smelly, but fine. But I'd recommend staying at Ibis Styles...similar price, but you also get a small kitchen station and a mini balcony and you're allowed to drink and laugh with your friends...also it's right off Queen Street, so super central :)

Great hostel. Of course it's a bit noisy but what do you expect in a hostel? It mostly is noisy so I didn't care about that. Good showers/toilets and nice and helpfull staff. My matrass could've been better. Checked others in my room and they defenitly were, guess I was just unlucky in that part. All in all, good hostel. Defenitly going to stay again (already booked ;) )

The Hostel rooms are dirty and smelly. There was a mix up with my bed not being ready and cleaned until 8pm. Maybe a numbering system on the beds would help so it is known which beds to clean. I've frequented quite a few hostels and some of them do that. The beds were creaky and the noise consistently woke me up. There are not enough plugs in the room for everyone to charge their electronics, and not much floor space. Bags are lying everywhere and make a tripping hazard at night time. On the other hand, the wifi is good and the staff members are nice.

Hi Katie, we apologise for the delay in getting your bed ready. Our housekeeping manager checks that all beds that are going to be used on that day have been cleaned. Unfortunately it is out of our control if other guests use 2 beds to leave their belongings on and make them both look occupied. We provide lockers under all of our beds to our guests to store their bags safely and securely. We will be looking at a long term solutions to provide more plugs for the increased usage of electronic devises. Our maintenance guy will tighten the bunks to ensure they aren't as noisy. Great to hear you enjoyed the free Wifi and we will pass on your regards to our great staff that try to make everyone's stay the best in NZ! Thanks Nomads Auckland Management

Overall it was a decent experience. I really appreciated the 24hr help desk and both the location and price of the hostel were good. However, the walls were rather thin and the beds quite creaky. I was forced to use ear plugs a number of times to fall asleep. The mattresses were also not terribly comfortable. I could feel the metal frame through the mattress. Also, there were no fans or air conditioning in my room. While Auckland isn't well known for it's scorching summer days, it was warm enough in my room with the windows open to be uncomfortable. I wouldn't likely stay there again, but it's not a terrible option if you're on a budget.

Hi Tim, thank you very much for your feedback! Unfortunately we don't have air con but supply fans to our rooms. We are in the process of changing all our mattresses which will hopefully be completed soon. We hope our other facilities like the free Spa and Sauna, the daily activities and the free one hour WiFi were something you made use of?! We hope to see you again soon. Thanks Nomads Auckland Management
