we are happy this cutie has arrived safe and sound were it belongs to! :)

Yesterday we were asked to help DOC relocate the New Zealand fur seal that had taken up residence in a Papakura carwash. After a team effort, it was successfully released at Kariotahi Beach on Auckland's west coast.

Ive stayed in many many hostels in Auckland, some great and some terrible. This is one of the better ones for the price. Good sized room in the 12 bed dorm and a nice window with a breeze. Staff awesome, kitchen reasonable and great to have an outdoor area. Showers are average and the shower mats are pretty uncomfortable/painful to stand on but that's just a petty complaint. Am yet to try the internet. A good budget hostel that exceeded my expectations for the price. Will extend my stay.

First of all...we walk in to check into our room...what do the staff do? They see us, then turn around and walk to the back of their office and chat/laugh/flirt and leave us standing there like idiots for a good 5 minutes watching them talk and laugh before even acknowledging our presence. Secondly...I wouldn't recommend staying here if you plan on having fun...from a simple funny conversation with friends to drinking alcohol. We stayed there on a Saturday night, we booked it so we could go out drinking. But found out there is no drinking allowed at all in the hostel (couldn't find that on the website - this would be EXTREMELY helpful to point this out, as I would have booked somewhere else), but because we had already paid for the room, we still had some drinks, but a lot earlier than we normally would and left the premises early around 9:30pm. We got told off for talking too loudly at 7pm!!! Understandable if it was say 10pm but 7pm?? This hostel is ideal for people who want to sleep and talk like librarians (I understand this due to jet lag, but seriously 7pm?) Staying in a hostel full of young travellers and even locals that is right in the middle of town should be expected to produce a fair amount of noise and excitement. Great location though and rooms were a little smelly, but fine. But I'd recommend staying at Ibis Styles...similar price, but you also get a small kitchen station and a mini balcony and you're allowed to drink and laugh with your friends...also it's right off Queen Street, so super central :)

Nomads is in a great location (although noisy on the weekends) in the CBD walking distance to plenty of attractions. The staff is helpful, the kitchen is well equipped with a wonderful rooftop view and they have several activities throughout the week for meeting people. It's huge and crowded but there is no shortage of showers or hot water. I highly recommend!

Hi Paige, thank you very much for your feedback. We hope you made use of our free ear plugs that we hand out on reception. Our staff will be well pleased to hear you were happy with their customer service and hopefully you were able to make use of our free daily activities too?! We hope to see you again soon! Thanks Nomads Auckland Management

The Hostel rooms are dirty and smelly. There was a mix up with my bed not being ready and cleaned until 8pm. Maybe a numbering system on the beds would help so it is known which beds to clean. I've frequented quite a few hostels and some of them do that. The beds were creaky and the noise consistently woke me up. There are not enough plugs in the room for everyone to charge their electronics, and not much floor space. Bags are lying everywhere and make a tripping hazard at night time. On the other hand, the wifi is good and the staff members are nice.

Hi Katie, we apologise for the delay in getting your bed ready. Our housekeeping manager checks that all beds that are going to be used on that day have been cleaned. Unfortunately it is out of our control if other guests use 2 beds to leave their belongings on and make them both look occupied. We provide lockers under all of our beds to our guests to store their bags safely and securely. We will be looking at a long term solutions to provide more plugs for the increased usage of electronic devises. Our maintenance guy will tighten the bunks to ensure they aren't as noisy. Great to hear you enjoyed the free Wifi and we will pass on your regards to our great staff that try to make everyone's stay the best in NZ! Thanks Nomads Auckland Management

Great hostel. Good location and attached to a nice bar and restaurant. There were nightly events. Staff were helpful and informative. Kitchen was good and spacious. Only downsides were that there was no free wifi and the beds were uncomfortable and squeeky!

Great hostel. Of course it's a bit noisy but what do you expect in a hostel? It mostly is noisy so I didn't care about that. Good showers/toilets and nice and helpfull staff. My matrass could've been better. Checked others in my room and they defenitly were, guess I was just unlucky in that part. All in all, good hostel. Defenitly going to stay again (already booked ;) )

I think I don't have to say something about the awesome location right in the heart of Auckland. The staff always tries to exceed its expectations and also the rooms (depending on the room size) are charming and fit the needs of backpackers. The only thing I want to claim is that there are to few plugs in the rooms to fit everyones needs. All in all I really have to say I enjoyed the stay with you guys!
Response from the owner - a month ago
Hi Gerhard, thanks so much for your great feedback! We are stoked to have pleased you and we will definitely be looking at increasing the amount of plugs we offer in the rooms! We hope you will come back soon to visit us! Thanks Nomads Auckland Management

Worst experience at a hostel ever. First my group and I waited in a line out the door, despite having already booked and paid in advance. Once we get to our rooms we find out that wifi was not includes however, we were told it was when we booked. We get to our rooms to find that there are no outlets at all to charge with and the staff was even surprised that our room had none and advised us to all use the only ONE in the hallway. Heads up for anyone booking: no wifi, no outlets, most lockboxs are broken (at least in our room) and the beds are uneven planks of wood. Even beds in China and Japan have more support than these!

Hi Vicky, we are sorry to hear that your stay with us didn't turn out the way we hoped for! In the afternoon we do get quite busy and buses drop off a whole lot of passengers and unfortunately everyone needs to queue even if they prepay/prebook. Can you please let us know in which room you stayed in so we can check the outlets and the broken lockers you described immediately? We do offer 1 hour free WiFi daily in our travel shop just next door to the hostel and inside the hostel the fee is only $4 for 24hours. Please email us under nadine@nomadsworld.com so we can get these room issues fixed asap! We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused your stay and hope you will have a great time traveling on! Thanks Nomads Auckland Management
