THE VISIBLE HUMAN: a complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional scan of the male and female human body.

How was this done? The male cadaver was frozen in gelatin and cut horizontally at 1 mm intervals into 1,871 slices and photographed to give 65 GB of high resolution images. The female was cut at 0.3 mm intervals resulting in ~40 GB of data. In addition, the bodies were scanned by CT (computer assisted tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

If that wasn’t macabre enough: Both bodies were donated to science but because the donors did not know their specific use and the male died by lethal injection, ethical issues have been raised. Also, these are not perfect bodies. The male lacks one testicle. The female shows signs of cardiovascular disease.

Art and Anatomy: Artist Lisa Nilsson was inspired by the images to create painstakingly realistic replicas with rolled up paper, an art form known as quilling. Her artwork takes weeks to create and sells for up to $7,000.
See the slide show here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/26/lisa-nilsson-art-paper_n_1456502.html

Watch complete scan (1:15 min) in HD: it is stunning The visible human project - Male (HD)

Sponsored by the US National Library of Science (NLM), the goal of this ambitious project was to facilitate scientific discovery and teaching of anatomy. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/visible_human.html

H/T to +Daniel Mariani who found the animated gif from Reddit (original creator unknown). +Chad Haney knows way more about imaging than I do.

Recently we shared the best of every state in US. Now it's the turn for the worst of Europe.

Really, Denmark? You think that you are too good to have Zara shops? ;-)
From highest youth smoking rates to the least doctors per capita, these are the areas each country of the European Union is worst at.

It's just your local pub. Can't comment on the food, it's 'not on tonight'. The big screens are up in the tops of the walls some 10ft up so it's more a stand and watch that sit if you come for sports. Staff are friendly and the pub dog just sleeps on the floor LOL

Lovely stay in regal Moroccan hotel. The pool is massive, there are a couple of restaurants and things are well set out. This isn't a modern hotel though. It's very traditional with large areas that could do with a refresh, however on the whole things ran very smoothly. During Ramadan the hotel runs at half capacity it seems as none of the shops are open, the pool bar had less stock but as there were less people in hotel the care was second to none. The beach is about a 6 min walk but it has a private area where you can get a bed and towels with your hotel cards.

This is just about the restaurant part, not the pub, getting a beer here is easy but Wow..terrible. For a pub with such a good position by the park you'd think they could do better. The food took over 1h15mins to come and when it did the standard of food was average to bad across the group of us there. We were told the Sunday roast beef was off because they'd had complaints about it and it came out a can.... yes, a can?! wth! There was an apology and a deflect of blame to the guy behind the bar who when he took our order seemed he was half asleep, but nothing offered in return for the delay. If you are after processed meat and a cheap price with a nice long wait go here, if you want anything different go to one the many other local pubs 1 star cause it served beer.

Some great food and decent service... There were some cats about that jumped on empty tables though and when you sit down you are the plates and cutlery are already there so look out for that as bad and olives are the first thing you get. Well priced, a Mediterranean and a traditional Moroccan menu and we left happy
