#1 – National Joint Powers Alliance® was awarded the prestigious 21st annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® award from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. (NPI) in August 2016.

The annual award is earned by public and nonprofit organizations obtaining a high score on standardized criteria. The AEP recognizes innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership. The program encourages the development of excellence as well as continued organizational improvement.

"We have a tremendous amount of respect for NPI and the standards for excellence they have set forth for public procurement,” said Dr. Chad Coauette, NJPA Executive Director/CEO. “We are humbled to be the only Minnesota recipient, and one of only 21 Special Districts in the United States and Canada to achieve this prestigious 2016 award. We have nearly 31,000 members actively achieving efficiencies by purchasing through an NJPA competitively awarded contract, and we will continue to strive to meet and exceed their expectations.”

#2— A 12-month construction project to add 30,000 square-feet to NJPA’s facility came to fruition in August 2016. In celebration of the addition, NJPA hosted an Open House on August 16 and welcomed over 100 community members through its doors.

With the expansion, NJPA can better accommodate its growing staff and better serve its members.

Watch this time-lapse video to see how it all came together!

#4 –On April 1, 2016, Sprout Food Hub opened the doors to its @Sprout Growers & Makers Marketplace in Little Falls, MN. #NJPA supported the three-year project by awarding SPROUT MN $200,000 in Innovation Funding in 2014 and 2015.

The 20,000 square-foot Marketplace allows Sprout to more efficiently distribute over 100,000 pounds of food each year to restaurants, schools, hospitals, and community-supported agriculture customers within Region 5 (Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena counties).

It also serves as a shared facility for local producers. Area growers have access to the facility’s commercial coolers and freezers, demonstration kitchen, processing kitchen, and storage areas. A large, open area hosts indoor farmers’ markets that feature locally-grown foods, plus crafts and goods made by local artists.

Dignitaries attended the ribbon cutting at the Grand Opening. From left: David Fredrickson, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture; Colleen Landkamer, USDA State Director, U.S. Congressman Rick Nolan; U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar; Arlene Jones, Sprout Co-Founder; Lisa Mensah, USDA for Rural Development Under Secretary; Cheryal Lee Hills, Region Five Development Commission Executive Director.
