Cold-weather velonauts: do you use clipless pedal systems, or classic toe clips, or Power Grips, or something else?
Frosty's previous owner, who lives in a warm climate that almost never freezes, urged me to use clipless pedals. I was about to buy SPD shoes, but then I remembered my whole reason for getting a velomobile was to get around in cold weather. If I have to change from winter boots to bike shoes every time I get in, that might discourage me from riding. I'd also need fussy SPD winter boots as well as lighter bike shoes. Whereas I already have warm winter boots I'm happy with, 1 pair for medium cold and 1 for severe cold, which really help my Reynaud's-afflicted tootsies. Are clipless systems really so much better they're worth it for utility (as opposed to race) riding?
Thanks for your advice!
