Thank you, Mr. Anonymous!
I decided to take my kids out for lunch - something that, for various reasons, very rarely happens. Little did I suspect what would happen... but when I called for the bill, the waiter explained that it had already been paid for. I asked, surprised, how that could be. The waiter responded that it was a regular customer who requested to pay our bill, and had done so. I asked where he was, but, to my dismay, the waiter replied that he had already left. I asked him to convey my thanks, which he said he would do the next time he saw him.
Now, how often does that happen? Does that mysterious donor know how much the small gesture meant to me? I couldn't stop thinking about it through the afternoon. There really are people who care about others? Why would someone do that, and not leave a trace to at least repay gratitude? Could he know how much gratitude a such gesture from a complete stranger instills?
Well, how would you feel if something like that happened to you?
