Suffixing the title 'Sir' after the name is a typically Indian trait that - although grammatically not correct - is redolent of a deep (stark understatement), utterly incomparable (stark understatement) bond between teacher and student. Merely using it thus evokes tender memories of a past any student and every teacher would happily live all over again.

Dr. Ganesh Devy has been a top Indian literary critic, thinker, activist, and - I add with pride - a mentor par excellence unto me.

I cannot and will never forget the huge debt to the person, the teacher, and the example he has been to me.
