It's Nightmare Wednesday, which means a new short story has been made free to read at nightmare-magazine.com. Lucky you - today we're letting loose a Lansdale!

In "The God of the Razor", antique-picking is a dangerous business.

Mind the stairs.

This Nightmare Wednesday is a corker! In addition to the Gaiman fiction, we're also hitting you with Lisa Morton's filling interview with the Sensational Steve Niles. He answers questions about his genre-bending tendencies, his appetite for failure, the role of DIY in the future of the arts, and the surprising results of the Sparkles for Blood Drive (in which donors exchanged TWILIGHT novels for copies of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT).

Neil Gaiman, everyone's favorite fantasist and encourager, graces Nightmare Magazine's massless pages with his love-letter story "Feminine Endings," free to read starting today at http://www.nightmare-magazine.com.

"It was your smile that told me you were a foreigner, before ever I heard you speak. In my country we smile in bursts, like the sun coming out and illuminating the fields and then retreating again behind a cloud too soon. Smiles are valuable here. But you smiled all the time, as if everything you saw delighted you."

This month, we have original fiction from Anaea Lay (“They Called Him Monster”) and Brit Mandelo (“And Yet, Her Eyes”), along with reprints by Ramsey Campbell (“The Companion”) and from the new anthology The Lowest Heaven, Maria Dahvana Headley’s “The Krakatoan”. We also have the latest installment of our column on horror, “The H Word,” plus author spotlights with all of our authors, a showcase on our cover artist, and part one of a two-part feat...

After you've read Neil Gaiman's story "Feminine Endings" for free this Nightmare Wednesday, why not get inside his head in our author spotlight interview?

"You’re always being seen as somebody else’s idea of you. And most of us are never seen at all."

World Wide Woes slowed our website's roll last Wednesday, so we weren't able to tell you about that week's free read, Caitlín R. Kiernan's "Houses Under the Sea." Which makes THIS Nightmare Wednesday kind of a two-for-one!

The Pacific harbors peacelessness in this Monterey-set, fact-and-fiction-heavy story. A cool and lush delight. Dip in.

"I close my eyes, and I see her, Jacova Angevine, the lunatic prophet from Salinas, pearls that were her eyes, cockles and mussels, alive, alive-o, and she’s kneeling in the sand. The sun is rising behind her and I hear people coming through the dunes."
