Very true...a few will make it out of poverty, but without a strong social safety net with particular focus on education and health care accessibility and affordability it is extremely difficult.
The Story Of Income Inequality: How Minor Economic Class Differences Can Perpetuate Themselves
"When the top 10 percent gets 100 percent of the income growth over the course of a generation, then the America of opportunity is vanishing." +Senator Elizabeth Warren

Most folks are shocked to learn that the highly deregulated, free market USA, which prides itself as "the land of opportunity" where anyone can achieve "The American Dream" if they work hard enough, actually has far less socioeconomic mobility than more "socialized" countries like The Nordics (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland). This is caused by a lack of strong public programs that can help level the playing field. This effect can even be seen in the lesser mobility found in conservatives states, particularly the Southern US where useful social programs for the poor have been cut, sabotaged, or eliminated all together.
