Kastellet was part of the fortification of Copenhagen, as built by King Christian the Fourth around 1624. Today the area is mostly a nice park in Copenhagen.

In the town of bicycles one naturally have to design the public utilities with these tranficants in mind. In Copenhagen, Denmark on the southwest side of Kastellet on Bredgade - not far from Oslo Square or the Little Mermaid, one find this waste paper basket along the bicycle path.

At the time of our passing earlier today there was no hit or mis indications at the site.

One thing Alberta needs to learn from this spill is who they allow to operate facilities on Canadian soil. Maybe there was reason why Enbridge and other large operators were not interested in this pipeline.
The band says their main concern is how the pipeline spill might affect their land, which is not used as much as it was before industry arrived

In Restaurant Kofoed in Copenhagen they even take the surface tension in account when pouring you an aquavit for lunch. We had aquavit - home made - both with the herring and with the cheese. Not a single drop made it to the table cloth.

At this restaurant you have a choice between four home made aquavits. The three we tasted were all very good.

At the convenience store at Østerport Station in central Copenhagen, Denmark on find these signs on the gliding doors to the store. Al least they have gone to the trouble of making all signs the same with.

But are these signs informative? What are there purpose? Is it really a good idea to mix signs relating what you can buy in the store with signs relating to what you are not allowed to do in the store? I don't thing so.

The messages would have been clearer if the signs had been placed on the non-sliding parts and separated with what you can buy signs on one side and the others on the other side.

Unfortunately this event was caused by the very high oil prices at the time, and the companies rush to get Bakken crude to markets before a safe means of transportation was in place - such as a pipeline.

Since then there has been numerous derailments, and also issues with the hydrogen sulfide content of the crude. In my view authorities were to quick to allow crude transport by rail.

On top of that no one payed attention to the safety of the rail cars. Already back in 2003 I saw pictures of derailed and overturned rail cars for transportation of ethyleneoxide and propyleneoxide - two rather toxic substances if the are released to the environment. In several derailments shown at a workshop for professors arranged by the CCPS none resulted in the release of any toxic material. But I guess the thinking was that crude just burns. It is not toxic, and hence until after Lac Megantic no one thought about rail car safety.

It seems to always take a major accident and many dead people to wake-up the oil and gas industry to safety issues.

My wife and I love gourmet dinners! We have sampled a number of Danish restaurant over the years and last week in Venice we decided to end our holiday there with the wine tasting with dinner offered by Venice Walks & Tours. At 115 € per person for a 4 course dinner with 4 wine as well as aperitif and coffee it is quite reasonably priced - at least compared to what we are used to in Denmark. For each course there was a choice of two menu items, and to get most variety we choose different dinner courses - except for the main course. The sommelier explained the choice of wines for the dinner courses progressing from the ligther white wines for the antipasto, light white or red for the 1st course and a full bodied Primitivo Manduria "Atianasio" for our sliced beef entrecote main course. It was a wonderful dinning experience. The decor of the nice outdoor courtyard used during the summer is nothing speciel. But you don't go to La Caravella for the decor you go there for the knowledge of the staff - cheifs, waiters, sommelier etc. in giving you a wonderful dining experience. None of us are knowledgable about selection of wines, but at least after our visit to La Caravella we much more appriciate the art of choosing the wine that match the food.

Unknown to Venice and night time made it a challenge to find the hotel. Our room was very nice - just enough space. An after the walk from the railway station I really appreciated the Jacuzzi in the bathroom - an excellent facility. The pictures on the Google+ page does not do justice to what we experienced: A hotel completely renovated internally with pleasant decor and modern styling. The breakfast restaurant on the top floor had a rather limited selection - I only saw yogurt the last day. The selection OK, but far from very good. If local laws allows, that a large hotel sign on the side of the building facing a nearby restaurant would be a great help. I never learned how to find the hotel.

After moving to Sarnia in early 1982 our new family started going to the LCA church in Port Huron. That was a nice church, and people at the border even on occasion allowed us to take a potluck dish with us to church. However, in the end it became inconvenient to go to church "on the other side". We than looked locally. As today there were to lutheran churches in Sarnia. Christ and Redeemer. Clearly the latter was also the bigger. Initially we were a bit concerned about its connection to the Missouri Synod, but the good pastor explained, that it was the English District of the Synod. We joined the church, and had our two boys baptized there. We also enjoyed many church activities such as the Lutheran Adult Fellowship Group, the pre-Easter communal dinner, and many other get-to-gethers until we left Sarnia in the late 1980's. When visiting Sarnia since we have always felled welcome at Redeemer, and this Christmas we read about the nativity scene on the internet.
