I crammed all of my hottest tips for developing responsive email into my latest tutorial over at Tuts+. If you’ve ever wondered how to build an email that’s responsive in the Gmail app (or Inbox or any of the others that don’t support media queries) AND still has a layout with multiple columns and reverse-stacking content, then this one’s for you!
Using this ‘fluid hybrid’ method you can build an HTML email with lots of different layouts that doesn't rely on media queries to look great on mobile devices. | Difficulty: Advanced; Length: Long; Tags: Email, HTML, CSS, Email Design, Responsive Web Design

On a review of Dante's Inferno:

Yes — Melbourne truly has the most embarrassing ticketing system in the entire cosmos. I almost couldn't read this because it makes me so angry!

Cool shapes that you can create in CSS, lots of which are very useful in HTML email.
The Shapes of CSS. All of the below use only a single HTML element. Any kind of CSS goes, as long as it's supported in at least one browser. Square. Rectangle. Circle. Oval. Triangle Up. Triangle Down. Triangle Left. Triangle Right. Triangle Top Left. Triangle Top Right. Triangle Bottom Left ...

I really love using HTML Email as a medium for education; I find the idea really exciting and fun. It can teach some cool lessons (PUN INTENDED) about the value of progressively engaging people and clever ways to pull them over to your website.

http://designforhackers.com/ is a 12 week design course aimed at developers that takes place over a series of HTML Email newsletters.

One cool detail I like is that there are elements of interactivity, like little 'Pop Quiz' questions that lead you over to a web page with results and more information. It's a cool way to engage users and upgrade an educational email from a sermon to something a bit more engaging and memorable.

The fundamentals of minimalist web design also apply to email design. Some good points in here.
