Walking on the Ice sheet.

The Greenland ice sheet is a vast body of ice covering 1,710,000 square kilometres roughly 80% of the surface of Greenland. It is the second largest ice body in the world, after the Antarctic Ice Sheet. The mean altitude of the ice is 2,135 metres (7,005 ft). The thickness is generally more than 2 km (1.2 mi). Some scientists predict that climate change may be near a "tipping point" where the entire ice sheet will melt in about 2,000 years. If the entire 2,850,000 cubic kilometres (684,000 cu mi) of ice were to melt, it would lead to a global sea level rise of 7.2 m (24 ft).
The ice in the current ice sheet is as old as 110,000 years.
Positioned in the Arctic, the Greenland ice sheet is especially vulnerable to climate change. Arctic climate is now rapidly warming and much larger Arctic shrinkage changes are projected.[6] The Greenland Ice Sheet has experienced record melting in recent years and is likely to contribute substantially to sea level rise as well as to possible changes in ocean circulation in the future.

The feeling of being there is incredible as the vast scale of the ice cap puts the world in its proper perspective.

WINNER OF PX3, Prix de la Photographie Paris.

I was anticipating and hoping for this... My monochrome series of the giraffes is one of my finest works as of yet and I am extremely happy they have been awarded with such a great prize.  The challenge represents my new journey to the world of color. My own color.. A long anticipated journey starts  the best way possible. :)

Nicolas Lotsos of Greece was awarded two Gold Awards - First Prizes- in the Professional category Nature/wildlife for the entries entitled, " Giraffa Camelopardalis" and "The Challenge". The jury selected PX3 2014’s winners from thousands of photography entries from over 85 countries.

Off to the Arctic
I am only one week home and I am leaving tomorrow again for 2 weeks in the frozen arctic. We will explore the ice world of Greenland, sail through the icebergs, walk in the glaciers, maybe meet some wales along the way.

All these are fantastic and it is a dream come true but the hardest thing of all is to leave the best guy in the world behind. The relief is that he is in the hands of the best mom in the world and I know he is happy. See you both soon

MIA is over and I am back after 10 days in Milan. I was happy to see that the photography level was very high and I am more happy that my work received so many great compliments. The booth was full every day and the feedback has been great so far. Haik Kourd and his team are still in Milan to cover the last day's demands and the deliveries of the sold artwork.

The challenge

Images will be coming in a slow pace as I will have to start prepare the photos for the upcoming exhibition in Milan on  May 24th. Make the right choices, testing, final prints, gallery framing, shipping and all the logistics.

This one is from our last overwhelming photo safari.

The topi is a medium-sized antelope with a striking reddish-
brown to purplish-red coat that is glossy, even iridescent in
bright sunlight. Each male has his "stomping ground," a patch of trampled bare earth upon which he stands. He defines his territory by depositing dung in a series of places, marking grass stems with his scent from the preorbital face glands and standing for long periods on a prominent place, where he can easily be seen by other topis. If another male intrudes upon his territory, the two go down on their knees and fight with their horns and pushing each other.
