Current user's location/cover toggle on Google+ Profile pages

Saw this for the first time today on +Nick Rink 's profile page. If you move the mouse over the info icon below his photo it shows his current location on a map in the cover area of his profile.

Maybe this has been around for a while and I've visited too few people's profile pages that actually share their current location.

Thanks +Nicolai Helling Interesting to see where Google now has the Pin location. I've got my location set to London, so the pin is certainly not central and is in fact around 12 miles north of from where I am.

I missed this one in January. It talks about not stopping with the setup of location pages but instead keep on optimizing them steadily.

Lots of pro tips in here :)

Here's a bit:
If you have a CMS with gated access you may allow individual store owners to upload their own content that the corporate marketing team can ultimately review and edit prior to publishing to the location page. The same system can be utilized to preview customer reviews on location pages before publishing them. This allows you to have some control over what’s being said about your business but also allows for unique and valuable content on local pages.

Thanks to Andrew Beckman (apparently only on Twitter...)

Multi-Location Issues  -

I don't understand Google in this particular matter.

I have a client with a 1000+ locations. One of the leading companies in their sector. In bigger cities (Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, etc.) when typing in "keyword city" in Google Maps their entries are underperforming and are almost not findable.

However, when searching for "keyword city district" on almost every location they rank #1 in Google Maps.

Is there a penalty or what could be the problem?

A little background to the client: There was a domain change form keyword.domain.de to www.domain.de in early October. Therefore all local URLs in the 1000 listings had to be adjusted to the www. one. In early November Google upgraded the bulk backend to the newest version (with multi-admin, side-by-side-data-comparison, etc.). Since then all URLs have been successfully updated, and for the locations in the big cities I made sure, that each listing had 100% data completion on it.

I'm sure the change in landing page from a subdomain to domain had a large affect. However, I believe that going away from subdomain is generally a good idea. If moving from the subdomain was the only change - I say ride it out.

Multi-Location Issues  -

Hey folks!

What is the best way to deal with unverified and automatically created listings for own locations that rank # 1 and so far do not have an equivalent in the bulk feed?

I ask mainly because I want to preserve the good ranking of the existing listing and do not want to create a duplicate via the bulk feed. On the other side: manually verifying would mean, that it would not be included in the bulk feed for future updates.

What should I do? Need help urgently.

Hi Dan, I've had this issue for bulk verified accounts and was able to speak with a rep who assisted and it was cleared up within 3-4 days (quicker than I thought would be).  I have experienced different levels of service and patience among reps and encourage you to try again. Good luck!

Google+ Local results in Google-SERPs drops review lightbox

Until yesterday a click on a review link on a Google+ Local result in the main Google SERPs would open a lightbox without taking the user to another URL. This has changed now: Clicking on review links on a Google+ Local result in the main Google SERPs now opens the Google+ Local page URL.

In cases where you have a reviews link and a seperate Google+ page link now both links take you to the Google+ Local page URL.

This change seems to be preparatory to release a new way to insert the Google+ Local results into the main Google-SERPs. A screenshot from a recent test can be found in a blog post by +Mike Blumenthal http://blumenthals.com/blog/2014/08/18/google-search-results-11-ads-1-directory-and-3-stinkers/

The yellow marked links in the attached screenshot of a local search query are now linked to the Google+ Local page (like the links next to them)

Stichworte:

lässt einiges Auftauchen...

Man müsste jetzt mal nachprüfen, ob andere All-Inclusive Anbieter ähnliche Schildchen angezeigt bekommen...
Muss aber woanders jetzt weiter...

Google My Business bekommt Feld für "Primäre Kategorie" bzw. "Hauptkategorie"

Export the listings' public-facing Google+ URLs for all your locations in your GMB Locations account

Wanted to share a pro tip with you. It's a bit similar to the tip presented here (http://localu.org/blog/export-data-google-business-dashboard-insights-report/) but a different use case.

I use Firefox, the extension Copy Link URL (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/copy-link-url/) and Excel for that.

1) Install extension in Firefox
2) Go to GMB Locations dashboard and set it to list 100 listings per page
3) Highlight all available listings
4) Use right-click on highlighted listings and select  "Copy Selected Links" from the context menu. They are now copied to your clipboard.
5) Paste them into Excel. You should now have three links per listing (= 300 rows)
6) Filter for the expression "dashboard", after that remove any unnecessary URL parts such as /u/, /b/, /about in between or at the end
7) Go back to GMB Locations dashboard and copy store ID, name, address from the table
8) Paste them into Excel right next to the cleaned Google+ URLs. Double check that they match nicely.
9) Repeat for the next pages in GMB Locations (if any)
10) Breathe & smile...You now have a complete list of all your public-facing Google+ URLs in your GMB Locations account :)

Hope someone finds this useful.

Maybe someone can come up with an Excel formula for the filtering in URL cleaning part...Excel is not my best friend and I'm kind of in a hate/love relationship with it ;)

Multi-Location Issues  -

Today for the first time I had to upgrade a 'regular' GMB backend with 11 listings to a GMB Locations backend. Unlike my expectations Google did not 'transfer' the manually verified listing into the locations backend. I would have loved this, because it would have allowed me to instantly have verified and active listings in my feed. Instead the bulk interface is empty and I now have to reupload the listings in a new feed, not being sure if Google will match these with the existing verified ones.

Well, how is it going from here? I now have to request verification for the account with the local help team. After that happened, will Google match the listings provided in the newly uploaded feed with the preexisting manually verified ones in the same account?

Note that the account has admin rights but not owner rights of each of the manually verified listings. Does it make a difference? If it had had owner rights of the manually verified listings would they have appeared in the bulk interface?

Love to hear your experiences in this matter.

Checked back with the account this morning. All manually verified listing were succesfully migrated :)

Ok, Google should definately show a notice that explains this behaviour a bit more. I was confused...

Thanks for your input +Cori Shirk. As far as I can tell now, it is not a problem, if the account happens to be just the admin and not the owner of all the manually verified listings.

Well for some reason Google still insists that I have to verify each of the migrated listings either by filling out the 'Request verification" form or on a per listing basis. However, when I'm in single-listing-view there no longer is any indication or need to do that.

Next questions that arise:

a) The listings have individual descriptions that are longer than 200 characters. Whenever I edit something in the GMB Locations backend I'm forced to cut down this description to the limit. Is this a bug or how am I supposed to update listings when they have a manually provided description?

b) The migrated listings do not have a store code and Google insists on adding one to each listing. Will adding a store code make the listings downloadable? So far none of the listings can be downloaded into a feed.

Having a robust solution to these problems will be so valuable!

Thanks to anyone whose weighing in on this :)

Feature alert!

Today I spotted a new status bar on Google My Business Locations. I guess this is to indicate the overall account status after initial manual verification with the Google Local Help Team.

Bedienung ist sehr down to earth und easy.
