Swans "The Seer" is quickly making its way up my list of favorite albums of 2012. Ingenious use of repetition throughout. The album clocks in at almost 2 hours, the title track being almost 32 minutes long.

I'm not sure if the thought of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake excites me, or freaks me out. Maybe a little of both... Either way, after seeing the effects of previous Cascadia SZ earthquakes on the Oregon coast, it could be an interesting one.

Better article than previous link, on new PNW EQ risk report. Less emphasis on N/S difference, though.

Interesting write up on the "Out of Africa" theory of early human dispersal. The comments section is a fun read as well.
Scientists have found tools in what is now Oman, in the Arabian Peninsula, which show humans made their way out of Africa more than 100,000 years ago.

I have been interested in the idea of unmanned drones doing archaeological mapping. This would be awesome, especially for large sites!
Would using a quadrocopter be a more effective craft to mount this kind of tech on? Time to read into this one a but more!

Test flight over Peru ruins could revolutionize archaeological mapping. Archaeological sites that currently take years to map will be completed in minutes if tests of the Semi-autonomous Unmanned Aeri...

These vehicles are also useful to reach sites in otherwise inaccessible and remote locations - they allow both visual access and an aerial view. I would also consider using them to view inside a cave/cavern, clefts, gorges and so on.

Interesting read about The Sex Pistols and Archaeology. It makes me think of the preservation of some of the old punk rock graffiti at 924 Gilman in Berkeley, CA.
